If you don't recruit Garrus or Wrex in ME1, how does that affect ME2?

You have to recruit one of them, but not both.Kitteh303 wrote...
You don't have a choice. I'm pretty sure you MUST recruit them.

Doesn't that sound pleasant?

Huh. Never knew that. Well I don't see any point in not recruiting one of them, but to each their own.

If you don't recruit Garrus, the dialogue changes when you meet him on Omega. You recognize him, he recognizes you and that's about it. However, all the other dialogue from that point on will be the same, as if you guys had your past adventures together.

Which is really strange.

If I remember correctly, Wreav mentions Wrex dying on Virmire on the default playthrough. Think he thanks Shepard for killing him even.Collider wrote...
Pacifien, does the default story in ME2 have Wrex recruited and killed, or not recruited at all? I'm guessing the latter, right?
Hmm. If you do an ME1 import where you don't recruit Wrex at all, I wonder if Wreav's dialogue changes or if it's like the incongruous dialogue for an unrecruited Garrus.

Strange. You'd think they'd just have Shepard not recruit Wrex to avoid references. Then again, you have to recruit Garrus or Wrex in ME1...guess they just chose Wrex.Pacifien wrote...

Also, it seems like the only way not to recruit Wrex is essentially to be racist. Shepard says something like "I don't want a Krogan on my team," IIRC.

Also, the whole point of his character development in ME2 is that he's become more bitter and violent than in ME1. It's kinda hard to capture that element of his character if you treat him and Shepard as being total strangers, so I can understand why Bioware would just avoid that issue altogether and treat it like you two knew each other no matter what.

"The Turian's a hardass, Commander. Kinda redundant if you ask me." On account of the scaly ass, I'm guessing.
Your ME1 Paragon/Renegade choice for Garrus changes a little dialogue regarding what he plans to do to Sidonus. Sparing Dr Saleon has Garrus saying "I know you don't like it", while killing Saleon but doubting that Sidonus needs to die leads Garrus to say "I'm surprised you'd think that, since you're the one who showed me the value of killing" or something along those lines.
But his actions on Omega, IMHO, are compatible with either Paragon or Renegade ME1 choices. Yes he decided to work outside CSec, but he had already done that by being on the Normandy SR1. What was important was that despite being outside the law and unaccountable, he kept himself above the criminals by following a code - no civilians, no collateral, that was their rule. That meshes with the Paragon conversations in ME1 "If you don't care about the hostages you're no better than he is".

I also think Wreav won't mention him but I haven't tested it in awhile.
