I'm close to level 60 and want to know whether or not I need to do more side quests first.

how much more expereince do you need? I dont think people know the exact amount (or the amount at all). i suggest making a save and trying Ilos straight away, and just do some side missions if it doesnt work

Someone should totally figure out the experience points you're going to get from Ilos because this question comes up a lot. It's the point of no return, so it's good to know before you commit.

I just went thru ME1 for the first time ever. Went as a soldier, and finished the game at lvl 38. Im guessing there is alot i missed by skipping quite a few side quests, but i had no trouble at all finishing the game (aka last "boss" battle was cake).

I estimate it at roughly 50,000 - 56,000 XP on Casual (without leaving the Mako to kill anything when possible). Scale that up for higher difficulties as you will.

ahhh i misunderstood you are trying to hit 60 in ilos, my entire post was useless many apologies

I went through it and it's 25,000-30,000 on Ilos and at the Citadel it's at least 30,000. Hope this helps.

Check your squad screen, there is a counter #######/###### current EXP/required (ME2 does the math for you), from level 59 to 60 requires 200,000 EXP alone.

I always end up level 57 either just before the final fight with Soverign or early on Eden Prime; however, I shoot EVERYTHING with the sniper rifle, turrets, Armatures, Colossus etc for high EXP counts; and yeah 4 Thresher Maws on FOOT. You get about 2.5 times the EXP for shooting anything (pistol, shotgun, sniper rifle, etc) on foot as with the Mako's cannon or machine gun. On play throughs 2 & 3 ( I do NOT spend talent points on charm/intimidate to reach the 12 levels of dialogue which are separate from the Paragon/Renegade bars that reset for each game) after I do reach 60, then I blow most things up with the cannon, turn the loot into omnigel and make sure that the final 3rd game is 'perfect' for importing to ME2. There are 1,000+ data points from ME1 to ME2 that are going to carry forward into ME3, so if you make a error in the FIRST hour of the FIRST game, it might just come back to bite you in the a**, and you get to start all over again. And yes there are several dialogues that I have NOT been able to repeat, got them ONE time and never figured out how to repeat them. On my Xbox 360 save files with 2 play throughs = 2 MB, so there is a LOT of info being tracked for ME2 then ME3.

I just finished as an Impersonator (oops Infiltator) Fem Shep, I started Iilos level 57 (BEST ever!). From the landing up to the Conduit 22,528 EXP, as above I shoot EVERYTHING on foot, Armatures & Colossus included. Spectre X pistols & sniper rifle with Tungsten 7 or Inferno X. I did NOT reach level 58 after the final battle, I still need 29,347 EXP.
