I start playing ME1 (again !!! - just for fun)... Then I noticed something that I should have noticed before. That comparing to the ME2 romance dialogs options, ME1 has more richer romance dialogs. If we take Ashley, we can do some flitter ing etc. and there are some interesting conversations (such as “taking a cold shower” etc.). But if we consider ME2, after you completing the “loyality mission”, “BAME !” you can do the romance with that character… which is pretty quick for a romancce sub-plot according to my understanding.

I wonder what you guys/ girls think of this? Do you think this is a valid point where BW has to consider in ME3?

haha. yeah. i was surprised with the miranda scene. she made my shepard whipped without even giving it up.

we were talking about her sister and then in the next dialogue option, BAM, I'm saying I know she wants it. wtf. no witty banter. no flirt. no foreplay.

And then for like 5 straight missions, I'm trying to get more dialogue from Miranda and she keeps saying that she'll be around next time things are quiet. And my Shepard like an idiot goes, "Oh yeah, I'm DEFINITELY interested." like 5 times. There should be an option that after hearing this 3 times, Shepard should have enough renegade or paragon points to say, "captains quarters NOW".

Hell yes lmao!!

Shep: So how are things with your sister?
Miranda: You love me.
Shep: I love y-?
Miranda: Yep you do...RIGHT?
Shep: Hell yes, I love you.
Miranda: Thought so...

Sheaprd talks to Jack twice during the playthrough

Jack: Shepard, what do you want from me? If it is just for the sex than bring it.

Shapard: Yep, I want me some sex...

Jack: Come here than

wtf, why the hell did that happen?

I think they were both weak. There's hardly any mention of the romance outside the Normandy within the same game (except during the suicide mission, if Thane or Jack die as Second Fire Team Leader).

It's understandable though, as BioWare places more focus on getting to know the characters rather than just having Shepard fall in love with everyone he sees.

Also, obligatory dialogue list:

Normandy Personal Dialogue Rankings, ME1/ME2

Ashley* - 458
Kaidan* - 420
Tali** - 387
Garrus** - 316
Thane - 298
Jacob - 286
Jack - 250
Mordin - 245
Legion - 220
Miranda - 218
Liara - 208
Samara - 203
Wrex - 155
Grunt - 132
Kasumi - 117
Zaeed - 83
Morinth - 43

(*Includes same-sex romance dialogue)
(**ME1/ME2 personal dialogue combined)

Tali (ME2) - 233, Tali (ME1) - 154, Garrus (ME2) - 146, Garrus - 170 (ME1)

Ashley, Kaidan and Liara fans will say yes, while others will say no
I for one thought Liara's dialogue was basically: "Hey I like you, let's screw, but let's wait a bit first". Though Ashley's was better

However, Jack's romance is far better written than any ME1 romance. And Tali's or Garrus' romance doesn't feel in the least bit rushed as they were introduced in ME1. Miranda's was basically similar to Liara's

If you understood Jack's character you'd know why this happened (I'm not gonna bother explaining), however that's not her romance, just a fling

Both games pretty much felt the same to me. I think all this debate really just stems from the other game having that person's favorite character/romance in it.

Jacks romance complete line adds maybe one more conversation to her set. that is three conversations to go intimate, you realistically tell me this can happen. Any relationship in game needs to have more interactions to develop than shepard just recruited x party member, now character y loves him/her more. At least with dragon age origins you had to know somethings about the characters (i.e. don't give morrigin holy based items, ogrin loves alcohal) and a relationship can be brought up slowly throughout the game. Also, in dragon age I do not feel creeped out when I first talk to a male character (Jacob anyone?)

It was largely the same in Mass Effect. Hell, I specifically remember Ashley, Kaidan, and Liara only having 2-3 conversations if you didn't romance them.

Shepard: I like you

Character A: I don't know, Shepard

Later

Shepard: I still like you

Character: I like you too *sexual innuedo/awkward flirting here* let's wait until before the final mission

The only one that creeped me out from the first game was Liara's, she seemed really obsessive and wanted to get in my pants after only 2 conversations. I don't want to meet her in a dark alley.

DAO's romances are better written, but the approval system ruins everything since I can do all dialogue options in one dialogue (thus getting my approval +50) and never talk to my LI again (I slept with Morrigan before going to Lothering and never spoke to her again except during her quest) and that ruins any kind of progression (Leliana fell in love with me in less than an hour after I spammed her with gifts). ME's romances were more gradual for me

The romance dialogues were both awful in both games. Lawd, bless them. But at least Miranda's romance isn't awfully over-dramatic love at first sight bull**** that some of the others are. She's pretty much "you like my body? great, lets shag like animals down in the core".

And that's why I like it, because it's a "romance" without the pretense of true love after a few short conversations. In contrast to Liara, who practically faints the second you show any interest in her, I'd say it's an improvement.

The funny thing is that there are people who, I'm sure, hate Miranda's romance for the exact same reasons.

EDIT: For the record, I'm not particularly against a "true love oh my god Shepard have my babies" type of romance, but I think it should be damn difficult to achieve - taking more than just spamming the upper right hand conversation option. I also think it should take more than a conversation after the loyalty mission to initiate.

Yeah, all of the romances are horribly written (characters are basically admitting their feelings for each other in one or two sentences). I just pick the characters I like and roll with it, and giggle to myself when I see people arguing over which romance is superior to the other.

I think the reason was basically that Ashley/ Kaiden couldn't do anything. they BOTH ask you if you like T'soni because there aren't Regs against screwing her. it's not until you're on the run and rogue that the human crew member feels it's alright to do the dew. although this "how's your sister- you love me" thing is a big exaggeration, since Miranda states personal feelings get in the they of missions. It's only until the nect conversation when she apologizes to you for doubting you at the ebginning can a romanc ebe explored and for renegades you get to fluster her xD "and wipe that smile off your face" but that's the reason why the Mass effect 1 romance Dialogue for the human LI's have more convo's because there are regs against "fraternization"

It doesnt really bother me how quick it is to get into someone's pants in the game its just the lack of dialog. After getting into someone's pants maybe there should be more in depth dialog after?? or is just doing it the goal?

I thought the romances and the romance dialogue was significantly better in ME2.

Yes but im biased, with the exception of Tali, i wasn't really interested in any of the ME2 LI's

Yeah, i chatted up Miranda, but that was more lust than like, when i actually listened to what she was saying, i just wanted her to shut up.

Definitely. I also didn't like how they weren't part of the main plot (ex. the scene in ME1 where your LI gives you a pep talk when the normandy gets locked down by Udina).

One thing I will say about the ME2 romances. They aren't forced like the ME1 ones.

Seriously, in my last ME1 playthough I was literally locked into a romance with Ashley and not even going full renegade on her would break the romance since all of the dialog options continued it.

Got lucky and being a completely ass to her at the locker scene broke the romance off, but that was an unpleasant experience considering how I wasn't interested and the game wasn't letting me say no while ME2 has a clear point where you say yes or no to the romance.

The ME2 romance dialogues, and just the romances in general, fell short for me. They were rushed and felt...fake. Could be because I'm a Shenko fan and I was ticked that Kaidan wasn't there, but even looking at it objectively, it's like, "Hi!" "I LOVE YOU" "OK :D"

ok, anyone that refers to sex with me (shepard) as a prize deserves to be curb-stomped or something. Rrrggghh.

Nah !!! I prefer Miranda over Ashley. But I know Mirandas' dialog options (romance) are shallow than Ashleys'.
