No, I don't think they are weaker. They generally aren't terribly exciting, but written well enough (especially if you are able to think that they "did bad on purpose" with Jacob).

I think they were both weak. There's hardly any mention of the romance outside the Normandy within the same game (except during the suicide mission, if Thane or Jack die as Second Fire Team Leader).

I'm curious, what do they say?

Thane: I hear it, a sea...
Thane: You look beautiful, my siha...

Jack: Too many of them... I knew I'd get hit on this job. I was too happy... too happy with you.

Garrus and Tali don't have a romance-driven line at this part, and Miranda can't die. Jacob apparently has a line for this as well, but it's impossible to obtain since he has to be loyal in order to be romanced.

Jacob: Too many, Shepard. Shields blew. Guess you and I won't get our time...

Miranda can die.

So what's her romance dialogue? I wantz to knowz.

Miranda can only die at the end of the suicide mission though. You can't get her killed before then.

... At all? I thought if she wasn't loyal she gets hit in the stomach and dies...

Miranda has a plot shield and cannot die unless you take her to the final boss and she isn't loyal (which is stupid)

I must say I prefer the ME2 style of doing things, where you have to do their loyalty mission, and thus bond with them personally, before the romance starts.

Whereas Liara was all, "I think there's something between us, I like you" like the second you get her back on the Normandy. You don't even know her yet.

This

Agreed

Context.

Seeing how the writers got the Ash romance right, they also got the Liara romance right too.

She's only 8 years old in human years. Of course she would act like that.

The problem though is that 2 years later in ME2, she acts all grown up.

She's been around for 106 years and has made amazing discoveries regarding the Protheans and is a Doctor... But because "in human years" she is only 8, she hasn't matured yet and should act like a giddy school girl falling in love at first sight?

Right...

The romances in both games seem kinda weak, with Miranda here is the basic story:

"Your hot."

"Damn straight, I'm built to be perfect, but nobody respects me for it!"

"I do."

"Cool, meet you in the engine room."

*Post creepy Shepard face here*
The tali romance is pretty creepy like that too, what is she, barely 18?

I feel overall that the best thing would be a mix between both game's styles. Its also dependant on each character. With Tali, she reveals that she has always had feelings ever since you rescued her from the Broker's thugs. That, I can see the justification for her revealing so early on how she feels. With Garrus, he gives the impression that he never even thought of it before, since I feel like Shepard is the one who suggests getting hot and heavy. And he will agree with it because of his respect for you. That romance is more lusty (and experimental, lol) I feel, and I feel Tali's is more love-driven. So for those, the quick moving romance seems fine. For the others, it would certainly be better if there were more dialogue. I always liked Ashley's romance better than Liara's in ME because of the slower pace, and plus she had some provoking things to say as well ^_^ I think Liara's romance is better though from a substance standpoint than any of the ME2 LI's for femshep. Garrus' is cool since like I said, its kind of a fling anyway. The others just...really hold no appeal for me. Too bad Samara is so able to control herself >.> She'd be good for my femshep.

Also, they should have done some dialogue for after the mission...I realize they may have a "romance pack" in the works, but they still should have had some. Rather than the character act like they're still getting ready to bang, even though they already did.

I start playing ME1 (again !!! - just for fun)... Then I noticed something that I should have noticed before. That comparing to the ME2 romance dialogs options, ME1 has more richer romance dialogs. If we take Ashley, we can do some flitter ing etc. and there are some interesting conversations (such as “taking a cold shower” etc.). But if we consider ME2, after you completing the “loyality mission”, “BAME !” you can do the romance with that character… which is pretty quick for a romancce sub-plot according to my understanding.

I wonder what you guys/ girls think of this? Do you think this is a valid point where BW has to consider in ME3?

I agree with you.

I don't think Bioware knows how to write women without them coming across as crazy and stalkerish (see Femshep in all of her romances in Mass Effect 2)

But Liara is probably the worst offender. First conversation and the chick is already saying that she "looked everything up about you"
