Well, it says this new game runs thru a decade. Maybe what happens in Origins happens DURING the new game. Say, it might start up before DA:O, at some point the blight is happening (across the Waking Sea?) and it ends later on.

Which also means you might meet up with younger or older versions of DAO characters

Well, since we've basically been told the Feb 2011 release is NOT DA 2 ... (my guess would be DA 2 will be released around this time ... August 2011 ... mebbe October.)

We know DA 2 won't feature our Warden. In fact, AFAICT, "Hawke" (who I think will be human but could be male or female), is not a Warden, and although he's a Blight survivor, the next game will not be dealing with a Darkspawn Invasion (to which I say, yay, though I remain really curious what the next plot driver and setting will be).

However ... this makes it potentially very likely that the Feb 2011 release is an expansion pack, possibly one that wraps up the storylines of Warden 1.0 and mebbe Morrigan too.

Embark upon an all-new adventure that takes place across an entire decade and shapes itself around every decision you make.

The idea of the story unfolding over a decade sounds like it wouldn't necessarily be possible by continuing Origins' story.

Why not? Unless you sent them to die, your PC was by no means old enough to see their life ending within that timeframe, not even because of the taint. Same goes for Alistair, Leliana, Zev...

yeah, sounds like a perfect hack'n slash
game where the player evolves to become the uberbully ruling the
world... including less story but tons of new darkspawn to slay down,
pictured through a "completely new" cinematic presentation.

Oh, thinking along the lines of Diablo 3 maybe? That game could theoretically see release in a similar timeframe if I'm not mistaken...

Maybe the storyline is in the past. Could it be Duncan

Haha. As much as I love and miss poor Duncan, I don't think so.... .though tbh that wouldn't be a bad idea for DLC or something. Just not in relation to DA2

Maybe Hawke is:

*DA:O SPOILER ALERT!! Do not read further if you haven't completed the game!*

-- maybe Hawke, whether Warrior, Rogue or Mage, Male or Female (IF you do get to choose) is Morrigans 'godchild' offspring (or whatever you like to call them) from DA:O,

*END SPOILERS

--and that's why you're forced to play as him or her; the story is more of a personal narrative ala Mass Effect style, because the story might focus on their unique background perhaps?

No, we already got Duncan's story in the novels.

I've been secretly hopping that the sequel would allow my character to find back Morigan.
Maybe a DLC for DA:O then ...
I did not like the way it ended.

Well, however I am more than pleased with the official annoncement  of this sequel.
Can't wait for more information to come up.

Thanks Bioware :)

yeah, but diablo is great in the way it is. dragon age is a rpg and will never feel right as a slashfest. there is no problem with the lack of a customizable character in terms of chosing your race. but all the published facts are hitting in the same direction as the trailers of last years presentation - lots of gore and less to read. it's like they are making games only for retards... that's not the way the rpg fans want their game. they should make the skilltrees more complex and therefore the fights and the tactics you need to win those. to focus on dialogue is also a strong point.

now they will voice all the lines (that's for sure the introduced "new cinema" feeling ), cut down the dialogue options and focus on bloody moments - i am off to bury the glory future of crpgs.

Has DAO2 released where it is set yet? i hope it's either Anderfels, Orlais or Antiva. i think that it should continue your DAO or awakening character with a further lvl limit.
