So what are your hopes and expectations for DA 2?
Beyond the obvious (new origins etc).
What would you love to see?
What would sour the game for you?

More cinematic (check, it sounds like).
Better graphics/engine (again, check).
Long.
Significant branching based on decisions.
Better character creator.
Import into DA3 godammit!

it seems I'll proibably get what I would like to see ... new areas that aren't part of Ferelden ...

* too much "streamlining"
* if the "new dynamic combart system" turns out to be too much FPS-style like ..

I hope for another great story involving something besides Darkspawn and Grey Wardens. (And from the description I'd say that seems pretty likely)

There are a few things I'd like to see.
Mainly I'd like to see the choices that you make in the conversations and actions be even more subtle and meaningful to the storyline, not just textboxes at the end saying that this, this and this happened - I want to see the effects of my choices on the world.
Something that irritated me a little about the original was the lack of variety in the armour and weapons you could use. Call me vain but I like to look at the shiny loot.
Another request would be for more life to the enviroment. When I'm in a town I want it to feel like I'm in a town and see people going about their business and interacting with people that are not me. Or if I'm in the wilderness it might be nice to animals that aren't hostile just to add to the emersion and believability of the enviroment.
My final hope is for polearms. I want to use a quaterstaff, spear or a halberd.

- LONGER than DA:O, which was way to short. (Allthough DA:O was really good quality... i would NOT trade qualiity for quantity if it came to that!)
- More sinister and memorable villains with more personality. I hated in DA:O that you didnt really had a villain you could really hate. (i actually liked loghain, couldnt "chat" with the archdemon)
- Harder! Console has been dumbing down and siplifying games so long even a 10 year old could complete the game on hard atleast. More advanced and variety in skills and talents.

Maybe a playable quanari origin would be interesting. I thought there were too few races in the first game.
I would also like to see player choices having a larger impact on the story and any subsequent expansions.
Finally would also like to see less glitches and faster patches lol

A darker tone to the game and story. I felt Origins was closer to a typical fantasy tale with the exception of a small number of specific instances. I have no problems with fantasy games. It just wasn't what I hoped for from Origins.
I'd like to see more variation in mage spells. An entire school specialized towards crowd control perhaps, and less combat oriented magic in general. Dragon Age spells were too skewed towards combat. I know teleportation doesn't exist in Thedas, but it would be interesting if say... you could cast Haste and have it speed up travel time. Or maybe have certain spells aid in solving quests. For instance, using Blood Magic to mind control in conversation instead of persuade. Think KotOR's Force Persuade. Anything that makes magic more than a way to kill or survive in a fight basically.
I would like to see a generalist mage specialization for those of us who don't want to be a Blood Mage or a Spirit Healer. Shapeshifter and Arcane Warrior were too specific for a mage who wanted to focus on spellcasting. A proper archery specialization would be nice too.
Also, an end to job board quests. I want to see quests that feel substantial throughout the game. At the very least quests on par with what was in KotOR or Jade Empire. Origins had its share of those, but there was too much job board filler content.

I'm really hoping the dialogue system will be a mix of Origins and Awakening. With items you can click on to trigger conversations, but also able to speak directly to the people.
I'm also hoping they continue the origin style beginnings. Though it sounds ike you'll have one solid beginning. I'm hoping that they have some slightly different character backgrounds that will affect gameplay.
And last, I really do hope that we get to meet Morrigan's child at least. I'm still hoping that the storyline I thought would happen will come true. But if it's anywhere close to it, I'd be ecstatic.(New PC in Orlais with Morrigan's child as a companion/love interest. For the shorthand explanation of what I thought DA2 woud probably be.)

Oh yeah. Make this game darker Bioware.

Griffins! I can't believe we'll have to walk all over Thedas. Hey, if dragons were suppose to be extinct and they're not, then they can bring griffins back. We could get fights with dragons as random encounters.

Now, forced to fight for survival in an ever-changing world, you must gather the deadliest of allies, amass fame and fortune, and seal your place in history. This is the story of how the world changed forever. The legend of your Rise to Power begins now."
Reminds me of Fable. Will there be a hero's academy?

I'd like BioWare to actually commit to making a dark fantasy game if that's what they're going to market it as such, this time. Origins had way too many nice, happy solutions at times (a certain Dalish quest and a certain demon quest that resolves itself come to mind) and I'd like it if they made more of an effort to making the choices more difficult. To the game's credit, it does manage to give you difficult decisions on a few occasions, but more needs to be done if it wants to be convincing as "dark fantasy".
Also, there needs to be steeper consequences. Origins was much better than most other BioWare games here, and I liked that you had more control over who is and isn't allowed in your party than in many games where they're forced, but there are a couple of times where Origins fell flat here. Consequences make your choices feel like they actually matter.
Keep the lack of a karma meter. I liked this a whole lot. I'm glad I didn't have a meter going up and down telling me how "evil" or "good" I was - it's a much more natural way of doing things to just ditch it.
I also want party members that don't bicker like twelve year olds. I understand that Morrigan and Alistair aren't supposed to get along, but damn, do they really have to act like little kids around each other? It kills the mood sometimes. I'd prefer a darker cast that maybe act more professionally and I can take more seriously - a good frame of reference would be the more developed Mass Effect crewmates (Wrex, Garrus, Tali, Mordin, Thane, Legion) or Mask of the Betrayer (Gann, Kaelyn the Dove, One of Many).
Less filler combat would be a huge improvement. The Deep Roads were at least one section way too long, and I'd rather have a shorter game than Origins if it meant less padding.
Oh, and darkspawn. I want them gone. Replaced with something interesting. The Fade seems like it has a lot more potential as a setting because demons are far more interesting in terms of lore and unlike darkspawn, they are actually intelligent, so it opens up diplomatic ways of dealing with them.

My hopes for DA2? I hope that BioWare have learnt a lot from DA and possibly ME2.
I hope that they'll be slightly speedier in patching the game, because the current situation with Awakening is really very poor. Also, with that in mind, if they plan to use a similar DLC model and expansions, to ensure that the DLC content will transfer over. I feel it was inexcusible for DAO DLC (with the exception of RtO) content to not carry over, especially as the DLC and expansion would have been developed simultaneously.
Secondly, I would like to see them add a higher level of polish to the game. I would like to see Dwarves have a better proportioned skeleton/model this time as DA:O's were, quite frankly, rather poor. We're in 2010, why do no weapons have scabbards, and why do they just float on my character's back? And I feel with that polish should come a greater attention to detail - A great example being the skin colour of your character. If I coloured my character's skin purple, I would expect the skin colour of my character's family to be roughly the same.
Thirdly, I hope they've improved the stat system and itemisation of weapons/armor. To me, DA:O felt too heavily skewed towards warriors and melée rogues.
EDIT:
Finally, I want smaller decisions with more realistic consequences. Sorry, BioWare, but I just didn't buy half of DA:O - it felt too fake and convenient.

Just let us know already what happened to Morrigan's child.
Adequate PS3 graphics. Not like in DAO, which looks like **** compared to 90% of PS3 games.
More dialogue in camp/HQ/whatever.
More choices. I wanted to keep all the ashes for myself and let Arl Eamon die. I was disappointed.
Character facial expression. Think it through. I hate to see a SAD face on my character after he willingly offered a girl as a gift for a demon. I want an evil-mad grin in such situations.

More interactions with characters like DA:O.
Open game world
Darker world with darker talents
Decisions that effect gameplay so if you kill someone there is some kind of reaction with NPC’s.
More solo fights with unique outcomes depending if you play as a rogue, mage or warrior.
Better ending than DA:O
