I figured this was coming by some of the comments from David Gaider but it still doesn't help the sting of official word.

There were plenty of reasons that could have been given for why your grey warden had to travel to another land to adventure. I'm sure others will state how many open questions there are for our characters so I won't get into detail. With the abrupt ending of Awakenings and this announcement, it feels our warden has been cut off mid story and left to rot.

I understand for the team that made the game, it's something new and exciting. You were probably bored with going back to the same characters and world. However, without continuing the great story from the first game, it certainly seems like a sequel in name only. :(

Who says they aren't making another expansion to finish the story of our Grey Warden? (If I remember correctly the description for Awakening was that it's the first expansion for DA. I'd find it a bit odd to describe it as the first expansion if there weren't plans for at least a second as well.)

Well, new RPG is nice but why call it Dragon Age 2 if you cannot continue with your character?
They should call it DargonAge:"Whatever", if it is a complete new story.

I like the website, but after my experience(s) with DA:O and Awakening I probably skip it until I get it as platinum version.

Um.... DocDVD, there are plenty of games or movies called #2 that don't revolve around the first main character....... especially RPGs.

I think sequel is a misnomer. Might interest me, might not. I'll wait until it comes out and read the reviews. This news puts more of my interest more on another large expansion for Origins--only this time with the companions. Or maybe all that bit about 'your story isn't over' was just cake.

It would be very difficult to continue the story with the Warden from the first game. There were too many individual choices that would have to be taken into consideration as far as the the plot is concerned. If the Devs made that decision, they would probably have to create a canon or a set of canons which would not be very enthusiastically greeted by many fans. Though, I guess we will have to wait for more info.

Yeah, very very vague so far. Hope the trailer will give us a few more details, so far we know next to nothing about DA2. Will it play a couple months, years, decades, centuries after DA1? Will it play in an entirely different part of the world?

And also very important - Will we finally get mage armor that doesn't look like crap? And will our main character finally have voice acting like every ****ing npc in the got? Pretty pretty please....

I'm actually pleased not to continue the old Warden character. Awakening was to me a good ending point. The characters were already too powerful by the end of it, and I suppose I'm just ready to see new stuff. I don't want to be in Ferelden anymore, I want to see what else Thedas has to offer.

Most RPG sequels I have played don't involve the same characters. Some like the Might and Magic games happened on different planets.

I think it is smart to not use the same character. I was dissapointed wtih how Bioware handled the Awakenings situation and the Final Sacrifice ending. Awakenings should have just been the Orlesean Grey Warden and it would have made more sense. But regardless I want them to take this route - new game, new hero, new story (hopefully involving Morrigan's freak baby).

To me Awakenings left to many questions for me. With my city elf it said that her and Al's story weren't done yet.

I'm really disappointed now. I was wanted to finish my story, find morrigan - see my own son and now that? Come on - that's the dumbest design decision I've every heard. Sorry, I really enjoyed playing bioware games. Dragon Age, Mass Effect 1 + 2 were perfect, but this news is a punch in the face.

My biggest fear is the announced fixed protagonist. I've got enough beefs with Shepard as it is (mainly because the ME2 team doesn't let me deal with the situations I'd like to deal with), whereas Origins offered much greater diversity. I'm sad to see one of the hallmarks of Origins get thrown out the window.

I anticipate a possible expansion around Christmas time to close the DAO storyline, Awakening creates more questions than it answers and leaves an overall sour after taste with its abrupt ending having spent around 100 hours with a main character. They may as well pulled the '... And it was all a dream' card out of the hat.

I have faith in Bioware in a developer and that they are nowhere near sloppy enough to leave the Warden's tale at that.

And a Christmas expansion to close the first story off and whet the fans appetite ahead of the sequel makes good business sense as well.

A sequel doesn't necessarily have to continue with a character. A sequel is a continuation of a story - so if this game is set some time after the events of the Fifth Blight, then it *is* Dragon Age 2.

KotOR2 did not continue with the same group from the first, but it's still definitely a sequel.

Yeah, a fixed protagonist, especially if it's a voice acted one, makes it less likely that I'll find it interesting. I tried Mass Effect 1, abandoned it early, and have no interest in Mass Effect 2. At the same time, and for reasons that I have trouble understanding, they seem to have been backing away from a lot of the things that made Origins so awesome and unique. Look at the way they minimized and controlled character interactions in Awakening.

Sour taste, is right! If the Awakening ending hadn't been so forced, and utterly unsatisfying, this wouldn't be so bad. Or if they hadn't kept putting in those damn epilogue slides leading us to believe there'd be more.... At this point, we'll see how DA2 pans out, but my focus is now on an Origins expansion. Sadly, they might well leave the warden's story at that. They've done it before in other games. We'll cross our fingers. But it's not just the warden I want to see, a la Awakening, it's the warden and the companions.
