Well I notice that it doesn't say Dragon Age Origins 2, just DA 2. Do you think they have done away with the origins storylines? Also I wonder if you can import DA:O characters like they did for ME?

Chris Priestly wrote...

While there are multiple races in the game, like elves, dwarves, etc, in Dragon Age 2 you play a human character.

Pretty much answers one of my questions.

I guess I should ask these questions in the other thread so I don't derail the box cover thread.

Sorry.

Am I the only person who thinks the box art looks a bit Call of Duty-ish?

yes.  I don't see much similarity and hardly anything to worry about.

Hmm, the dragon looks like it is originating from the man? Could this be a subtle clue that this is morrigan's child, fully grown? And if it is, you can kiss your sweet arse goodbye the option of having former companions returning as they'll be either in their 50's or 60's or (in Wynne's case) dead.

Since this is about building an empire, my guess is that during the game (maybe especially early on?) you have the options of enlisting certain NPCs that end up your retainers. So, say, at some point you save a guard from a city under attack. He may become your sergeant later on. A mage you help becomes your advisor, etc. Not necessarely companions as in DA:O, but with a different use. For example, the armies you gather in DA:O. But instead of something that exists only in a given quest, it becomes a resource (armies, advices, itens, crafting, etc) all along the game. Looks like an interesting idea and, if they do not use it, I will use that somewhere :D

I hadn't noticed the silhouettes myself. Nice catch. It makes me wonder if those are all party members or combination of them and NPCs that help Hawke along. Baldur's Gate 2 had fifteen party members, but I would still be shocked if DA2 had as many without sacrificing something in the dialogue department. Either way, most intriguing...

If I were to guess, I would say that either the silhouettes are simply just artistic license, or a allusion to you (the pc) consolidating your power and affecting peoples lives. Because while 16 companions would be... interesting, I highly doubt they could write 16 companions that were as well done as the ones in Origins in the time frame they have (hasn't DOA been confirmed for 2011?). Unless David Gaider is some bionic robot writer. Always possible. :P

If mass effect continues what its doing, the next game will have 18 squad mates...

Wow... DA sold better than ME2, even without a core audience yet, and now BioWare and EA decide to take away both elves and dwarves, which is super-backwards, and now we even have a friggin SURNAME? This just reeks of the same treatment the ME2 got when compared to ME1. DA:2 is going to be a great game... but not great in the same way as the first one. Even as a male though... I have to say, seeing a female poster character WOULD be refreshing... especially if it wasn't all T and A like Bayonetta.

DA:O had sirnames as well, but did not use in the main story line. What I am wondering, will be ME2 style, every line is voiced and place one story or will be more like BG / DA:O was?

Keep in mind, this may not be the final box art.

So there can be more than 15 companions? Interesting...

Very interesting. Probably your allies, as the site says you have to gather the "deadliest of allies" and stuff. I definately count more than 16 people, so that's a big party.

16 isn't that much. Baldur's Gate has 25 different followers. Not that there were extremely much interaction between them and the player, like in Shadows of Amn. But still.
