This thread reinforces the age old saying - different strokes for different folks. I come down on both sides.
I like the personal experience of a single player game, that I can play at my own pace. I like how well a story can be told, too, which is harder to in a multiplayer game. As I get older, it's also harder to carve out times that match with other players' times, so I can play a single player game when it is good for me.
On the mutliplayer side, I enjoy the true roleplaying that can only be done when you are interacting with live players (and, in the case of games with a dungeon master, with "live" NPCs as opposed to pre-generated conversations). If you haven't tried a DM'd game, with a small group of players, give it a shot (in NWN, for example). I remember how awestruck I was after my first multiplayer game with a small group, after years of playing games by myself or stuck with MMO's.
I'll go back to my initial observation several posts up. I'd love to see Bioware make a single player game, but have the capability in the engine for mutliplayer. The single player campaign doesn't even need to be mutliplayer, but it would be great if we could use the stuff we make in the toolset in a multiplayer setting.
Realistically, though, that's not going to happen. There won't be enough bang for the buck to tack on the mutliplayer elements (which is probably quite an undertaking), so I'm just going to enjoy the game for what it is (which is, hopefully, an awesome single player RPG).
