"Think like a general and fight like a Spartan with dynamic new combat
mechanics that put you right in the heart of battle whether you are a
mage, rogue, or warrior."

To me, this sounds like a de-emphasis on the tactical overhead combat
style from my PC experience and a movement towards twitchy, action
based console gameplay.

But I'm probably just being paranoid.

I'm kind of nervous to find out. But it's Bioware, have they ever let us down?

Hopefully whatever it is it makes the combat finish faster, so I can focus on exploration and conversation instead of killing hundreds of mindless goons.

This description also made me really nervous. Especially the bit about "put you in the middle of the action." I don't want "action" because in advertising speak action always means shoot-em-up big-explosions fast-paced twitch-gaming. Do. Not. Want. Not in one of these games. So I'm nervous.

Yes they have. SWtOR is proving to be the biggest let down in years.

Meh, sounds like bullsh*t PR-speak to me. Let's just wait until we find more out about it.

Then we share that paranoidism BearThing. I'm scared this might turn into just another action game.

Im so concerned too about the "new dynamic combat system". It seems like arpg combat with no companions. I can live without the tactical combat but please dont remove the group combat and make "one men army arpg combat" for dragon age 2. Please can some bioware moderator answer the question?.

It means you get to use super Polearm swings and Gauntlet throws and 99x combos

wow. talk about jumping to conclusions. all it means to me is that they're updating it, like any good sequel does. They're not going to change it completely. They're going to improve it. The fact that there are still warriors, rogues, and mages should tell you that.

They barely even announced the game. We're not going to get any details for a long while. Better get used to that idea.

I'm thinking that the combat may be more ME-esque to satisfy the console crowd. The player has full control over his/her actions and gives commands to squadmates. Nothing wrong with that, but I do hope they keep the RPG-style that the original Dragon Age had.

And I always use the overhead view in combat. Makes things so much easier.

Button mashing.

I'm in ultra cynical mode right now, but it just seems like they're taking the whole "blood splatter" mentality and turning it up to 11. More dark and gritty. More brown and gray colors. And the little thing about "power" and "Sparta" on the website. Ugh... its like they want to make a 300 clone or something.

DA2 will be "streamlined" for the Halo crowd.

I fully expect them to dump the whole overview/isometric view option. (allows for better graphics on the hw-weak consoles). No surprise, really.

Yes. There. Is. something wrong with that.

If it goes that route, I may stop being a fan of BioWare altogether. Their recent directions have been worrisome. ME has been a fun franchise, but it should remain it's own franchise. DA was a fun game, and it should stick with the things that made it fun.

Different strokes for different folks. If BioWare is going to stop making games that fulfill the needs of their old fans, their old fans are all going to leave.

Bioware please don't kill the game!!!! We want a classic RPG, with a strategic combat system and isometric camera!!!!

DAO is perfect or quite. simplify the combat system or insert action element change the structure.!!!

For DAO you say "it's a Baldur's Gate successor". Now??? "It's mass effect successor??", maybe it's a new magic console style view!! :(

Pleas don't kill the game!!

It's people like you that will make me want to avoid these boards in the coming months.

I hope it is still roughly similar to DAO, and that the RPG-style combat is not abandoned.

I think you're right... I wouldn't be surprised if the tactical view was taken out completely and they went for a more action-RPG style of combat., similar to the Fable games or Demon Souls. I know a lot of people will be up in arms about that, but I'd be very happy.

I take it to mean that you will simply have more control over your character's actions. And "think like a general" leads me to believe you'll have more control over your party as well.

AMEN.

I'm willing to give this a chance, but I'm not impressed thus far. If it abandons what made DAO a good game infavor of "streamlining" away features for the sake of your Gears of War and 300 fans, BioWare will be dead to me. Hyperbole? Sure, but DA was supposed to be a throw back to Baldur's Gate. The DA2 stuff so far released looks like a Diablo/Fable style hack and slash.

You guys should wait until more details come out before rioting.

Gameplay may be one thing, but seeing that BioWare's forte is storytelling, not action, I am certain that DA2's gameplay mechanics will be similar to DA1. Why scrap a system that already works?

They may adopt a different system for the consoles, though, in order to give it some more appeal.
