Action and Fantasy Collide in BioWare’s Dragon Age 2
Son of a.... why do they have to use that language?! It just makes me more afraid this game is going to be restructured after ME2.
I'm praying its marketing BS to lure more casual people in.... but every single red flag that could be raised has been raised.
I love ME2 and ME but I don't understand why they're seemingly having all of their games copy them. They re-did TOR's dialogue after ME came out to include full VO for the PC and while not having confirmed it, seems like Hawke might follow that route. Plus the whole pimping out the "Spartan" and "action" angle does not have me thrilled.
I'm keeping an open mind, really, but the more BioWare is talking about this game the less I'm interested.

I fear you are 100% correct. I fully expect the same version on all platforms. I really hope Bioware doesn't sell out and proves me wrong.

Yup- most of the complaining about the graphics was with the console versions. While pure speculation on my part, it seems like most of the changes they're implementing are to suit the game better to the consoles. As a PC gamer that makes me sad and disappointed but not surprised.

Never mind Dragon Age 2! Look at this terrifying bit of information I just found on the Dragon Age: Origins website:Based on this line, I have no choice but to conclude that EA is about to retroactively transform DA:O into a first-person shooter akin to Mortal Kombat! We must start a petition at once to prevent this!
- Engage in bone-crushing, visceral combat against massive and terrifying creatures

This. C'mon, if DA:O had The Witcher combat system, it would be so much more fun.Behindyounow wrote...
Hopefully whatever it is it makes the combat finish faster, so I can focus on exploration and conversation instead of killing hundreds of mindless goons.

Personally, I'm hoping for gameplay similar to Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance.
Sooo, a hack and slash?
Well, here's how I'd like for it to play out:
You're able to control the general fight, give people commands and such just like Dragon Age Origins - yet when you're 'in' a character, controlling that one specific character is more hack and slash than just watching your character mindlessly hack and slash for you.
Edit: It would make it more action packed for those who don't care about tactics, while those who loved the tactics will keep it.

I'm sure it will be a great game. JUST PLEASE DO NOT ABANDON US! GOD PLEASE NO!
DA:O was all that was left. Sigh.
On the positive side, I'm sure I'll enjoy playing it.
But something special will die inside if it's an action-rpg.

I actually LOVE ME2. Really. The game is too good to be true.
BUT DAO is not ME. The charm of the title, to me at least, was to show that Bioware could make old school RPGs feel fresh again, and promise us a new dawn for a kind of game many of us, older gamers, still love.
There's no reason to transform DA is ME. They own the ME franchise anyway, and futuristic is MUCH better for an action game/shooter than medieval, as proven by countless titles before.
To me, at least, loosing the tactical edge the PC version of DaO to vave a more arcade-ish game like the console version would be really, really sad. I'd probably not even buy it. I didn't buy the PS3 version of DaO, even tough I REALLY enjoy my couch and 50' TV much better than my PC chair, specially since it doesn't continue the saga of the warden.

Is there a source for this? Because if that were true, it would make even less sense to me that they went into a ME direction with DA. I always just assumed that ME sold better, due to it being a more action-oriented title that was better optimized for consoles that DA.Kortok wrote...
Dragon Age sold quite a few more copies than Mass Effect 2, so I don't understand why they would change the game to be more action oriented.

If DA had The Witcher's combat system, it would have sucked. The Witcher has just about the worst combat of any RPG I've ever played.adamm24680 wrote...

Except Bioware has addressed everything else people worry about.
They're not responding to this, because they know they're stuck. When they say yes, the uproar is complete.

It kept me from finishing the game. Not because it was hard or anything like that, but because it was mind-numbingly boring. Rhythm-based combat just doesn't work without some additional features (such as Legend of Dragoon's counters that you had to worry about) and The Witcher completely lacked those.the_one_54321 wrote...

I'm honestly worried that DA will have been the last major-label tactical RPG.

"With Dragon Age 2, the world’s preeminent RPG developer is revolutionizing the genre again, infusing the universe with more action, a new, more responsive combat system..."
More action... more responsive... dare I say twitchy.
"Dragon Age 2 will simultaneously deliver an epic story and set a new bar for intense action in the genre."
Intense action! Woot!11! (Lest anyone is confused, that was a sarcastic Woot!11!)
“We are amplifying the things that made Dragon Age: Origins such a huge success while introducing a more dynamic combat system..."
That's the third time they emphasize the more dynamic, action-y nature of the new combat system in one press release. Plus, I can't help but read that sentence as an implication that the old tactical combat system is NOT counted as one of the things that made DA:O such a huge success.
This makes me sad.
It was one thing to purge crusty RPG elements from my console shooter/RPG hybrid. It's quite another thing to start purging old school RPG elements from my old school RPG.

Perhaps you will always control your PC and you command your party members to "form up" around you. This would emphasize strategic formations on the battlefield.
If my PC were a warrior, I might order my party to get behind me. If I were an archer or mage, I might order my party to form a wall to protect me. If I were in trouble I would order my party to break formation and fall back to a more defendable spot. In any case, your party would move and fight as one, following the commands of their general.
Of course, this is all speculation based on the few pictures and descriptions that have been released.
Thoughts?

I think you're reading too much into the Spartan comment. Seems more like they're trying to evoke "300" than mimick the battle tactics of Spartan warriors.

I hope it goes more of the route of "Fable II" combat. In that game I felt like I was actually fighting and not someone off screen who's shouting commands to my characters and then watching them react.
That's what I loved so much about Dragon Age. Party combat system like the good old days in isometric camera!
I could live with the changes hinted even tho I don't like them but please don't make this Gears of Mass Effect War 2.
