Marketing DA2: Is featuring a female player character really impossible?

Mass Effect fans who play female Shepards already have resigned themselves to never seeing anything but Male Default Shepard in marketing. Those who followed Dragon Age: Origins before the game came out only saw female characters represented in a few pieces of concept art or posters, while the poster boy was a tough looking male character.
Along with not having a female protagonist represented in most of the marketing, I expect from past experience that any female-only love interests, or male party members in general, will also be minimized in videos or commercials, while at least one love interest for the guys will be featured prominently. Am I way off base here?
Having a female player character be featured prominently in marketing won't change the content of the game when it comes out, but it would please those of us who play female characters extremely happy. We usually hang around these forums looking for any tiny scraps of information about what to expect for our female PCs, and get very little, it would be so refreshing and gratifying to have a different experience this time around.
Honestly, I had hopes for more DA2, perhaps naively. And please, before anyone accuses me of "whining", I guess I'm just an idealist who hopes that the powers that be might actually listen if we let them know that we notice these things and want a change.

And there is always the question: will it even be possible to play as a woman? Companies have gone back on that mid-series before (hello, Ultima VIII and IX).

Maybe all we have is a preset male character - Just saying...
I didn't even think of that . . .
But seriously, I had no interest in Mass Effect when the game was first announced, because I had no idea that it was possible to play as a female character. If that option does exist in DA2, wouldn't it help to advertise that fact?

If they put a kick-ass hot girl in the over, people complain she's too sexual.
If they put an average, non-hot girl or a realistic low-life female figure in the cover... well... just look at what happened to Beyond Good & Evil and Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodline.

Hardly a big deal. Plus, it's nice that they give us an option of a female character at all.

Well, Morigan was basicly the poster girl for DAO...
It was her and the default male Warden. That was the OP's point....marketing will heavily feature the male protagonist and/or the lead sexy hot female that is to be his LI.
No female hero or any of her LIs, though.

That pic is on the main Dragon Age 2 page. Granted it is not the "cover" art but it is a girl with the same claw arem and stuff as the beard guy. So they are already worlds ahead of Mass Effect 2.

About what you said about ME, if the only reason you bought it was that you learned you can play as a female character what does that show?TeenZombie wrote...

Did you not care about the story or the universe? The characters or anything other than the fact that you can play as a female character? Why is that such a big factor in you buying a game?

I'm sure the ability to play as a female protagonist will be there as with every BioWare game. As far as marketing goes however - I'm willing to bet that more at least 2/3rds of the Dragon Age player pool is male, and males identify with playing a male hero. Although DA:O had a male Warden in the promotional material, just remember there is no canon Warden (as far as I know). So while you may have to look at that guys stupid tattoo face, he's no more "right" than a female Warden.

Well, another thread just pointed out this tidbit on the Dragon Age News page:
BioWare has confirmed that Dragon Age 2, the sequel to the 2009 RPG of the Year, is in development. Dragon Age 2 progresses the epic saga, as you take on the role of Hawke, a survivor of the Blight and the hero who will change the world forever. Visit the Official Dragon Age 2 website here:Dragon Age 2
So unless we get word that Hawke is like Shepard, and can be male or female, we can't just assume that we're going to be given the option of a female character this time around.

I really don't care how the market the game so long as they don't revert to something similar to that dreadful MM marketing campaign of DAO.

Hey, as long as she's a PC variant, I'm happy.the_one_54321 wrote...
Do you all realize that one of the two pieces of concept art that are on the website is a picture of a lone female?

That would totally suck.
