Oh, so everything that was established in DAO is now pointless?
And Bioware has decided to take one step forward and three steps back?

DA:O is far from pointless, as you'll learn when you play DA2.

I've talked with Design quite a bit about Hawke, the DA2 lead character. There were a lot of directions that they could have gone, but ultimately, I think they made the right choice to tell the best story in this installment. Between now and launch, you'll learn more about Hawke and the story, which will shed a little more light on why Hawke was the hero that the world (i.e. this story) needed.

HAH! HAHAHAHAHA!

yah..you're turning it into a Mass Effect bite-off....Hawke? seriously? so now we're shoe-horned into this ****** like Shepard..and you're only allowing us to choose male or female..WOW..sounds EXACTLY like Shepard.

do you people have any creative talent left in you?  you REALLY think turning Dragon Age into Mass Effect with swords is a ****ing good thing?

whatever you want to tell youself "dudebro"

LOL, the hurt whining is hilarious.  Oh no, you can't play a dwarf! Wherever will I get a life! /Ruin

For one thing, it's not an Origins game, and if you've played Awakening, you already know that the continuation of your Origins character basically ends there.  But hey. 'bruh', whatever you want to tell yourself to make yourself hate a game with limited information, cool 'dudebro'?

Hey! A paragraph on the first day is perfectly enough to say that one would hate the game. Its the perfect size of information to fill a business card and I just so happen to judge how much I like or hate people by their business cards.

Of course people are going to complain when they've been playing a fantasy game with multiple race choices(three anyways) and then it's suddenly limited to one.

Mind you there is a difference between complaints and d00m crying.

Complaint: I disagree with your choice and hope you rectify it, I don't like what you've done there, or I don't like it at all and I find it stupid.

Doom crying: ZOMG THIS IZ GONNA BE XACTLY LIKE MASS EFFECT. THE PARAGRAPH I READ CONFIRMS THAT POINT.  SURE IT ONLY MENTION I CAN PLAY HUMAN BUT FROM THAT IT IS EXACTLY LIKE MASS EFFECT AND FROM THAT IT WILL DIE.

I refrain from commenting on what DA2 will become - as I think we still know too little about all it's features. At this moment I do get a feeling it's a bit Console centric with the Mass Effect concept in mind. Can't blame EA/Bioware, as that game was hugely sucsessfull - financially at least.

I remain however with the NWN type of game.

I am interested to know if DA2 has the following:

- Toolset? if so, is it a Modulair game?

- Multiplayer/DM Client?

if so -

- Can we get a race choice in MP then? (for our own, custom modules)

Not having high hopes on this.. as everything has to be Console compatible these days, and NWN elements like a Toolset, modulair design, and DM client/MP aren't one of those.

Well I don't like the doom crying, but the dev did confirm that we are playing the role as Hawke (dumb surname imho) and is a human.
The thing that mate DA:O good was the replay value, ME had this but was really sub-par when you were the same chracter every single time with really only a different moral compass whereas in DA:O you had a different moral compass each time in addition with races, and the fact that there is no voice made the character your own, rather than have one voice it and make it theirs.
That is why people say DA2 is going the ME path

But the problem is that that is all they know about the game. For all we know there could be 25 different endings to the game that all branch off from different choices. Maybe there are more starting classes and they each play more of a role in the story. We don't know. All we know is that there is no playing as other races and people are making it out to be the kiss of death in a game that was literally announced today.

You can't make up that kind of hyperbole.

I am quite happy about this approach. My main problem with origins was the origins. It was quite clear that the game was made for the human noble and the others just seemed to be tacked on. I am will be content if they do just one origin and do it exceptionally.

Wow, no details have even been dropped for the game yet and already you lot are whining like a bunch of enraged fanboys. Give it some time yeah? Besides the guy on the cover is most likely a party character or a Logain type character, no need to cry when you don't even know what's what yet.

Finally someone with sense around here !!

Agreed, I'm taking the wait and see approach.

But if I were to speculate, my only concern would be having the game completely stripped of its RPG elements similar to ME2.  If they incorporate a main character with full VO into a game as in depth as DAO and DAA, I'm all for it. A fully voiced main character made the Leliana DLC a lot more enjoyable.

I feel awkward commenting on this with the human noble profile picture (I play other origins, I swear!), but while I'm disappointed in the lack of races to choose from (I love my dwarves!) I'm going to remain patiently optimistic and hope that Bioware can deliver and let us create fairly unique characters, even when the 'origin' of sorts is the same for everyone.

But seriously, if they cut down on the character interactions á la Mass Effect or Awakening I will be pretty unimpressed. I think that's a more important part of character development than even the various backgrounds of the characters. I don't care too much if romances are a part of it (but they'd certainly help - what can I say, I'm weak?), but if it gets totally skimmed to nothingness there's very little to distinguish it from a bunch of other games.

Maybe, but this is the forums, what are you gonna do?
But the main point is, we loved Origins, mostly well for the origins, others were gameplay, story, etc. With the information we have right now DA2 seems a HUGE transition from Oirgins and into a style we are familiar with known as Mass Effect.
It's a hard thing to let go of a game you love and embrace another which seems and we assume to be drastically different.

It probably won't but my point was that we don't know what it has and what it hasn't. All we know is that it doesn't have other races. A brief sentence in a paragraph is hardly enough facts to make a logical assumption about the state of game in general... especially on the first day it was announced.

I'd be more worried about the change to combat than only being able to play one character. TONS of great RPG's have had only one playable character, who cares about that? I just don't want the combat to be console-ified on me!

Bioware can sit and defend this title all they want.

But I bet there sitting in there office saying " Whos the cream tart who said we should make up a completely different story and character and voice it like Mass effect!"

If this game does not have customization Im am not buying it simple as that.

Any even if it does have that! I still dont know if I should buy it or not.

BIG DISSAPOINTMENT BIOWARE!

we should of all exspected this with EA.

I played and loved Origins too. Though from the title of the game I figured out that it was going to be the origin story and the background and the jumping point for other games. Thus the Origin in the name.

And the fact that you are making assumptions is my problem. When was the game announced? Today. How much information do we have? 1 fact total.

To you it may be logical but to me you are all taking a HUGE leap of logic based off the flimsiest of evidence. Infamous 2 they changed how cole looks. Based on that tell me how horrible the next game will be and all its faults. I mean you can do it for this game don't know why you can't for another.

The problem with something being well received and well liked is that people tend to get fanatical about it and stop thinking factually when they become emotionally entangled.

I just have a bad feeling about this game. Now the missing race selection, and they talked something about a more dynamic combat system. I hope I'm just over reacting it. I hope.

They could mean Mass Effecty, They could mean Kingdom Heartsy, hell for all we know they can be making it a turn based strategy game. :P

We don't have a clue. It is day one and you are literally judging the game off of a paragraph and a vague sentence. Calm down and atleast wait for day 2 before bringing in the bad feelings. :P I intend to wait until I see the game being played at the very least before I start judging.

You are correct there, but like I said this is the forums.
Maybe DA2 won't be as a bad as I assume right now it's going to be, maybe it will be, we don't know. And since today it was announced, you can't tell me that you wouldn't have expected hype to be on here.
We love Origins and we wanted a sequel, we got DA2, though with the little imformation we have about DA2 it is not as most of us assumed.
But that's the gaming industry, sometimes you don't get what you want but you get something worse or sometimes better. And plus EA is partially to blame here :bandit:

It's a interesting news. Honestly, there are several cRPGs around where you can't choose your character's race, gender, appearance and really often it's class, so I don't know why you're complaining so much. Look at games like Gothic, Witcher or Diablo, you've got a really poor choice there and somehow these games are very popular and loved. I don't really care if I'll have to play as a human or something else, honestly it's just an appearance and a little of background story, in the DA's world race doesn't make such a big difference like in the D&D.

To be honest, all I care about is a class choice. I'm a mage-addict, but:
"Think like a general and fight like a Spartan with dynamic new combat mechanics that put you right in the heart of battle whether you are a mage, rogue, or warrior."
This sentence gives us a hint that there'll be a class choice, but it can as well refer to our travelling companions.

We'll see. ;) I'm looking forward to play DA2 anyway. :)

And EA is the devil. But I trust Bioware to make a good game in spite of them. They haven't done me wrong yet.

To all of you mentioning EA and their "evulz". Just be glad Bioware is not under Activision's dominion.
