I'm not upset in the slightest, I find it amusing that the people who were saying Bioware was pushing for the 300 ADD crowd actually weren't overreacting doomsayers. Crow, it tastes funny.

Kinda feels like "told you so"... but it's just too sad to rub it in... :(
I want another DA, not some ME2 in Ferelden... I'm still playing DAO, I've not been playing ME2 for a while, completed it twice, never touched it again, absolutely no replay value, whereas DAO has a high replay value because you still have the freedom to create your own character, even if the story is more or less linear.
ME2 is one of the most over-hyped games in recent years, it is nowhere as good as critics say and most importantly it is NOT an RPG! DAO is an RPG and if DA2 will abandon it's core RPG elements, I will not buy it. **** you, EA and BioWare, for ruining this great franchise which had a lot of potential after DAO! But then again, you did the same with Mass Effect, dumbing it down for the "300 ADD crowd" (very fitting term ;)) and destroyed what was good about it...

The thing I'm most disappointed about is not being able to continue with my DA:O characters.

Yeah, I'm kind of wondering what happened to our Origins character. And where is Morrigan? It be nice to continue the story of our Origins character at some point.

Bioware has said there still will be DLC between now and DA2 release, you might just find out what happens to Morrigan.

Do you know how much voice work would be needed if there were 3 races. both male and female? Hawke will obviously have the most lines in the whole games, it would take yearssssss to just do this.

Then don't voice him/her, even better!

While there are multiple races in the game, like elves, dwarves, etc, in Dragon Age 2 you play a human character.

Well I'd prefer to choose my race, than have voice acting for the main character. It was fine with the first game without it. If they're going to have voice acting, then they should put the effort in for all races or not bother at all. I just hope in future games we see the return of the other races, even if we have to get rid of voice acting for the main character.

While I assume there is a sound story driven reason for the character in DA2 to be human, I do hope that later games in the series will allow us to choose which race we want our character to be because, when playing a roleplay game, I like to play a role that is not my own... I prefer playing as a dwarf or elf... I'm quite interested in playing as a Qunari actually...

So, sure, I'm happy accept a slightly more rigid role if it fits the story (can you imagine playing Baldurs Gate as a character who *wasn't* related to Bhaal?) but please don't make this a trend.

I'm still a little confused by vocalising the character though... I remember reading a review of Dragon Age in some games magazine or other a few weeks before I bought the game which made a big point that the character was mute as if it was strange... I honestly can't think of any similar rpg that has a vocalisations for the pc beyond "Nothing? My attack did NOTHING!?" and don't really understand why it was brought in on this one... but that's another discussion I think.

Just to clear this up, having read some of the posts on the forums, can we still choose between humans, elves and dwarves?

i like that we won't be able to be elves or dwarves, because everyone knows that HUMANS/MAN are the bestest!!! plus this is just my theory, "wouldn't you want to play as what you are in real life (a human)". that's how i think...

"I cast confusing spreadsheet for 3d6+2 complicated maths damage" I don't understand why you would play rpgs at all if you want the character to be what you are in real life?

It's a game. I bet you're not a warrior or a mage in real life either. Games, especially roleplaying games are about becoming someone else. Also I can't understand why anyone who plays fantasy roleplaying games wouldn't at least want the opportunity to play fantasy races like elves. I love fantasy and fantasy races, and I really liked being able to play as an elf.

The game is not an extension from your real life, it is your second life.

I, personally, play five hours a day when I am on vacation. That means I spend 19hours in my real life and 5 as a character. Many players, as I know, play far more than this: I think it is enough to consider it a second life, is it not?

At the middle of the game you are already feeling like the caracther, getting sad or satisfied acording to his story.

So think of this like an "James Cameron's Avatar" thing: when you enter the game, you change your body, so it doesn't really matter what your new body is as long as you are transported to a new world (Thedas, here).

Since the DLC have been disappointing, especially from a story and continuity standpoint, I for one hope not.  I'd like to see the Morrigan story given more attention than that.

I'm positive the choice for making the character human had a lot more to do with the story than the voice acting...

I am a Game Master for P&P games for 27 years now. And let me tell you one thing, Bioware. A ROLEPLAYING game, means that the people involved identify with a role. They want a vast variety of races and classes, they want a huge plethora of skills and talents to chose from. The more the better. There were days when games like Wizardry or Might and Magic (the RPG) had 30 classes and 20 races to chose from.

There were also games like the later Ultima series, which removed all races other than human with Ultima 4 and removed all choice about the PC's background -- you simply are the Avatar, full stop. I suppose people complained about those changes too. There was also Wizardry IV, where you had to play as Werdna. And Betrayal at Krondor, with no choice of anything for the PC. I'd offer more examples, but let's just stick with the classics for now.

It's OK to want more races and classes, but it's not OK to lie about the history of CRPGs. Or rather, lie about the tastes of CRPG players. Dude, you know better.

@ Chris Priestly

Now I can not really see the reason you chose a single character like in Mass Effect I do have one question.

Since you play as Hawke in DA2 does that mean that you will also be playing as him in DA3? If the answer is yes, then it feels like DA went from a more personal story into Hawke's story.

EDIT:
And if I may, may I ask the logic behind completely getting rid of the origins stories and race choices for a PC with a VO?
