I don't mind too much although it does hurt to see the charming old style to have its final breath with DA:O.

DA:O is the way it is because it had a long development process. Allot of things in the gaming industry changed in the time-period of DA:O's development. Stuff like God of War and Gears of War popped up and those little kids were wetting their pants of excitement as their parents bought them all that consolitis crap. The industry began to realize that THAT audience is the audience that can literally add zero's to their income. So games started to get more and more mainstream aka shallow. Games For The Masses.

Bioware, however, was too far into DA:O's development to make changes for the masses.. so DA:O was born as the last Baby of The Good Old Days. I knew DA:O was the last of its kind, therefore this disappointment was expected and I'm not shocked and emotional about it.

These are the facts, guys. You can protect your game-box all you want, but it's the consoles that made it the way it is today. So, by all means, cry me a river... but do know you're the hypocrite. And therefore, the joke's on you.

As for those still loyal to the PC: The games of old will never return. The massive console adience has tainted the gaming industry forever. We now have to keep faith and look up to Blizzard and the future of MMO's. That it has come to this is depressing indeed.

Well, lets think if it like this. Maybe they will let us play as other races in smaller stories in Xpansions. Its a thought on the idea. I'm wondering would Bioware be open to this. Chris? hmmmm! moving on.

And they named him John Sh... Hawke, a guy on a mission. On mission to kill stuff and advance human interests.

While I like to play as different races (it makes a nice change between playthroughs) I understand why it is necessary to play a human on this one.

I'm also beginning to see BioWare's way of improving games. They just remove stuff entirely.

They obviously couldn't be arsed with the complains about Mass Effect's planet explorations and the inventory, so they just removed them completely as their fashion of "improvement". Now they probably realized that they simply don't have the time to make a new massive dialogue system because of their retarded early deadline, so they just remove it completely.

Yes, I have changed of opinion. A few pages back I was completely OK with implementing the ME dialogue system but due to some good arguments of other people and some more thinking of myself I have made the conclusion that it is indeed a bad omen.

I already think it's cliché, but to hell with it: We don't need or want a Dragon Effect. We need and want a Dragon Age II.

Very disapointed about this, but I'll wait and see before making a final judgement.

I enjoyed making my own characters using all the races and my favourite was the elves they had imo the best origins and its a real shame they're limiting the players to one race. If they're trying to make it more like Mass Effect i really have to say...PLEASE DON'T. I liked Dragon age because of the choices you could make with your characters appearance and backstory and now its been taken away for a Shepard-esque character. Disapointment.

Stop saying we... don't speak for other's, speak for yourself. I loved BG 1+2, I loved DA:O, and I'm sure as hell not passing judgement on DA2 untill I actually HAVE something to judge. Infact I'm really looking foward to it.

Also don't act like whatever group of gamers YOU associate youself with is any better then the casual players who DA2 appears to be catoring to. I'm sure as hell no casual gamer, I'm would def fit the hardcore catagory... but I realise the more casual crowd is where the $$$'s at. I also realise their no worse or better then me. Their a broad catagory of gamer and if a game can appeal to both hardcore and casual gamers, both sides will need to sacrafice a little but in the end more people win then lose. And DAMMIT thats a good thing.

I want a good game and thats ALL I want. Above all I want a good story... thats why I buy bioware games. At the end of the day, if I feel like my money was well spent. I'll give the game props.

PS- Calling in Dragon Effect is f*in stupid btw. Besides the conversation wheel, so far it's not doing anything we haven't seen in tons of other games. Infact I have a feeling it will be akin to the Witcher then a game where you fly around in a space ship and shoot guns at aliens.

If you can't play a different race, I won't be buying it. I hate predefined  character games. The point of ROLE PLAYING is to play something that you are not and enjoying the freedom of playing a different race, sex, what have you in various replays in the game. One of the major reasons why I hated Planescape Torment. Hell you can't even play with a character different name.

Well you lost a future sale on this game. Its a shame to because I enjoyed Dragon Age and have been a Bio fan since BG1 was released.

You completely missed my point and you are obviously not the kind of
player I was reaching for with my comment. If you really care, read my comment again and think  ''Big Picture''.

But like I said, if you're ok with the mainstream Games For The Masses stuff.. I understand you disagree or fail to fathom my point.

Some things, however, cannot be denied. Lately BioWare replaces instead of improves. DA2 will most likely be more mainstreamed, with a more consolitis / 15-year-old-kid ''this is the new ****'' attitude and a revised gameplay system that is barely to not resembling DA:O.

Buy me a beer next year if it turns out I was right.

The end is nigh. Repent!

How many times has the old style of gaming died forever now?

Things change. Crpgs face limitations that pnp rpgs are immune to and certain stylistic and story choices will limit them further, but I see no reason to assume that voice overs and a human character will be impose more restrictions than having certain lines said a particular way and not being able to be an elf.

I really don't understand why everyone is so upset about this. There aren't any Origin stories, so whats the point? It's just a way to get around a few problems and add to the game. If they thought it was worth it, I'ma trust them.

Very disappointing. If you can only play the one race. DAO was so much fun and replayable because of getting to play the different races.I been playing Bio games since BG1 first came out.Why they have gone this route I don't know.I didn't buy ME 1 till it was 16 bucks so I said what the heck.It wasn't bad and ME2 was ok but as far as replayable.Got boring too quick.DAO is so much better.

It definately cuts down on it.I really enjoyed doing the dwarfs.Casteless or Prince it was a different expierence. The same with the elfs.I was surprised that there was no common human.Even if he was a servant that escaped the keep.

My only problem is that I will be on the losing side. So I don't give a s** if the casual players win. They have lots of mainstreamed game already.
