All of you whiners, whining about the set last name, realize you had a set last name in DA:O too, right?

Despite the harcore explosion of self-rigthteous anger, I will point out to everyone on this thread that what you happen to think makes an RPG great is not what everyone happens to think makes an RPG great, and there are people like myself that think that (for example) VO is a dramatic improvement over non-VO exactly for what it allows in roleplay.

Damn this sucks, I hope you can be black then.

I highly doubt it. It really is a shame.

Not all of us were decended from Europeans, Bioware.

In that case I can't play any game that has come out at all, With the exception of maybe Turok Dinosaur Hunter.

I shouldn't be surprised though, M. Knight made Katara White instead of Innuit in The Last Airbender Movie.

Very very sad.

What drawings? If you mean the cartoon they are clearly dark skinned in that cartoon. But we're derailing this thread.

I hope if they don't let us pick elves or dwarves that they at least let us be darker skinned. I highly doubt they will though. Ferelden was devoid of anyone not caucasian other than the Chasind, who were represented by three people in Lothering.

well it doesn't mean much if you can pick a darker skintone aslong the result looks just like a tanned "european"

Lol.......no. I picked that game as an example because it's not only ridiculous, it's borderline stereotypical. (okay, maybe not borderline)

Really, the only thing I found different playing an elf rather than playing a human was the origins, despite the small difference in how people react to you. And I thought the devs had stressed that Hawke is very much a blank slate and the character will be able to customize Hawke pretty deeply. Yeah, it'd be nice to play an elf I guess, but I really don't see how it effects anything other than the roleplaying aspect which, considering a good portion of gamers don't roleplay and play games only to play a game, I don't see it as a big deal.

I have no idea why someone would play a game like DAO except to roleplay.  Does not compute.

Uh...because VO has killed our budget and seriously confined the game we can only develop one race, let's see what's the most bland choice...human, we'll go with that.

Hawke is Human and you can't change that but he can be any class and spec... Sucks... Hawke is the PC character seen in the opening of the game that looks like an Arcane Warrior of some sort his eyes glow blue... Yeah this information is based on SentYouAMessage on Inside Xbox...

<<<<<<to be entertained by the good story and nice gameplay?
I'm willing to claim than more than half of the players who played DA:O only "RP'ed" themselves and thus doesn't really count as real roleplayers.

Nothing wrong with a black dwarf, I played one in Icewind Dale 2. He looked pretty badass. What little I could see of him anyway (pixel graphics......that takes me back).

If they turn this into a Mass Effect with just another setting then they'll be losing this customer.

As much as I like Mass Effect I think the formula used has only limited uses. It works for Mass Effect because you're basically playing out a film, you have limited choices and little effect on the overall outcome of
the game. It's how Mass Effect was made and has always been and it works for Mass Effect.

Dragon Age on the other hand was supposed to cater more to the oldschool player, with a more Baldur's Gate style approach, if they take this away I don't see any reason to continue p(l)aying it, it's not what I want from the game, nor what I (and most DAO players I presume) expect.

I'm white but could only play as an asian in Jade Empire.
The horror.

what about me?! I'm puerto rican / peruvian!! When oh god, when will they recognize me and make a half peruvian, half puerto rican protagonist!!

That's it, I've had it BioWare, I love you so much, I hate you. I'm going to boycott all of your merchandise, but I'll still keep up with your news on the forums. That's how much I love you.

*sob sob*

*cough*  Ahem...where was I ?

While there are multiple races in the game, like elves, dwarves, etc, in Dragon Age 2 you play a human character.

god i hate human characters. i can get past not continuing the original story, the romances the loose ends etc etc, i can accept that this is another story taking place just before the final battle.

not being able to be an elf, forced into human.. this.. this is almost a deal breaker i have to admit. i can play Fable or Witcher again if i want a forced character.

The narrative always is stronger when more pieces of a character are set in stone

i dont know about anyone else but i like to play as a different race. being a human is soooo overated and just mundane. think about it games are supposed to peak our interest and alow us an escape into and alternate reality where we could do things that we wouldnt normally be able to do. being a different race is in fact one of those many ways to escape. RPG's were basically formed around that same opinion. this game might as well call itself an action game before it ever dishonors the fabled and esteemed title of RPG.
