and isnt it supposed to start in lothering? around the same time your hero from DA:O is becoming a grey warden. so how could you be morrigan's god-child? and just because you didnt have a romance with her doesnt technically mean that she didnt have a kid. in order to give players the dark ritual thing they just made morrigan have a romance with another character. besides who's to say that instead of actually killing the archdemon in DA:O morrigan stole the god's soul right before you killed it. think about it too, creators have a weird way of implementing scenarios like this. oh and to all of the fable haters the moral choices affected your character turning him or her into a non-human character or at least that was the case for fable2. speaking of moral choices i hope that they have appearance changing moral choices in this game it would make the no race option just dissapear for me. and game creators if you keep saying "oh we're not going to do that because its not how old school games were" then realize this.... YOU JUST TOOK OUT THE "CHOOSE YOUR RACE OPTION" which has been in most old school games. so get over it.

I don't mind only being a human. My main character was human anyways.

Plus I thought being a cousland from highever made the story much deeper. It was about revenge against Howe and what he did. Besides hunting down loghain. Especially as they were working together. Every other origin character would be like, who is this guy talking to loghain with an assassin. Well I know. He's a murderous traitor!

Apparently the majority of Thedas' population looks caucasian. Simple as that.

I never play as a human in fantasy games when I have the option to play as another race so this is very disappointing. VERY, disappointing.

originally I thought the lack of multiple races and origins was just to cut back costs for voice acting, but now I believe it was also because multiple "Bethany models" would have been needed for all the races to be equal with your own choice, I also think this is why there won't be a black Hawke neither, if the sister is white it would kinda look bad, of course you or she could be adopted, but then there would be no issue about incest and the developers wouldn't oppose romancing her as they already do


of course Fallout 3 was able to make it work with father/child, so I don't think there is any real cause to deny these things except lazyness

Nothing wrong with a black dwarf, I played one in Icewind Dale 2. He looked pretty badass. What little I could see of him anyway (pixel graphics......that takes me back).

Played as a black elf in DA:O. Maybe we should unite and form a group similar to the NAACP and protest this proposed change. It could be called NAANHCP (National Association for the Advancement of Non-Human Colored People). Naw, doesn't sound right. NAANH will do fine, that way we all non-human characters are fairly treated.

The race is predefined as human, the skin color is most likely freely adjustable, it was after all adjustable in DA:O and four of the six origins showed family members of the PC.
But you will have to live with the fact that there is little family resemblance with Bethany if you make anything other than a Caucasian with brown hair.

hmm, I don't know, if we would have an RPG set in Nigeria, and people would complain about the lack of european or inuit as character option would it make sense? Maybe Thedas is just not the place for other ethnicities of humans, or there may be only one universal ethnicity for humans to begin with in DA, and mostly only culture differs

That's just it though, with the exception of Jade Empire, these games are NEVER set in a place for ethnicities of other humans. After a while it really starts to get old.

well truth be told if I look at your avatar and that is supposed to be a black elf I can't see it just a sunburned/tanned elf, while skin tone can be changed somewhat the facial structure as far I remember was unchangeable even in DA1 (but i am not sure as I never tried to make a black character)

No, I'm Native American in real life and always try to make my characters look a bit like me (it never works though). My facial features look very little like this, but it was as close as I could get without him looking like some sort of alien. It is very annoying.

This is as dark as an elf or human or dwarf can get in Dragon Age though. It kind of just looks like a tan.

That shouldn't really matter. Many games don't have origin stories for their sequels yet they still have fully customizable characters.

There shouldn't be any black dwarves as they live underground and would be naturally pale... If you all want to have all ethnicities and minorities represented I want a perfectly natural world where all physical laws are abided... And where people can throw fireballs out their hands...

Agreed this is a grave disappointment. Bioware is now picking our names and races. Very little room to be anything other then what Bioware decides for us i guess. I really enjoyed Dragon age : Origins and was hoping for more, but this isn't Dragon Age its just too limited. Beginning to wonder if its EA making the game design choices or bioware. This recent dumbing down and limiting of player chocies seems a bit clue less to what the Majority of their fans/customers wanted IMO
