I am surprised by this, did not expect to play as a human only, don’t even know if we can play a female part either.

Have to say that i am disappointed with this decision, i am sure the game will be great but i had a great time playing as an elf and don’t understand why this feature is removed.

Bah, I hated the Human Origin in DAO - I've never made it past Ostagar with one, to now be saddled with one in the 'sequel'. Sigh. Guess I have to wait for more info, but I was hoping that my original character would be in DA2 as well as those that I had an ending with. For those who say that it's easier for Bioware to voice a surname with just a human character, why? ALL the origins had surnames set - all they have to do is ask the VA to just say the line with a different surname and record them.

Btw - I hope it's not Morrigan's child. Everyone focus' on that too much and it would detract from the whole choice factor that DAO had. I love it when people argue that 'She'll find another old god and do a ritual...' for the people that chose NOT to do the dark ritual, from the way they wrote DAO to me that's nigh on impossible. After all that's what the Darkspawn spend centuries digging and looking for - the old gods. You can't just buy 'em at a corner shop ya know - they're buried quiet deep, or so the Darkspawn say.

The reason for the main character being human suddenly seems obvious to me. Look at the slogan:

"Rise to power... by any means necessary".

Rise to power.... obviously it means becoming some kind of king. Seeing as humans are the dominant species across the continent, it makes complete sense that we're playing a human character in his or her quest to become king.

You can play as a female, Since were going human this time around. I hope there are more skin tones.

It is our right, as the paying customer, to express our opinions about the product we may or may not be buying.
Also, everyone has the right to give their views, which may change after more info. For now, this is a very bad sign in my opinion

That'd make sense, if they establish a canon baseline story where Alistair has no heir Ferelden could potentially be in a civil war so you'd be like Calenhad and unify everyone again to become king/queen.

For some odd reason, I have a feeling that this could be like Fable III, Both games Center the PC on his/her rise to power and such, except in F3 you need followers to overthrow the tyrant, unless.....?

While there are multiple races in the game, like elves, dwarves, etc, in Dragon Age 2 you play a human character.

I think I smell a troll...  The fact that taking away race selection would greatly REDUCE RPG elements, makes me believe that this is just something to ruffle our feathers.

And if it's true, I am extremely disappointed in BioWare for trying to turn all of their games seemingly into Mass Effect 2, which I don't think was even that great of a game.

So, Chris, PLEASE say you're not telling the truth, and if you are, note the vast disappointment across the community?

And on the note of location.. it says after fleeing the blight, which only struck Ferelden, so it all depends on where "Hawke" lived, which I'm going to guess is in the Bannorn, because that just sounds like a location where plenty of people live that wasn't TOO overun by the Darkspawn, but still caused enough damage for his escape, which leads me to believe that maybe it's in Orlais? Because its not the rise of power to a throne, its the rise of power to a champion of the realm.

Orlais is kind of where I hope it is, because its one of the most intriguing locations on Thedas to me. But Really, anywhere other than Ferelden is good. As much as I like the deep cultural history of the place (which I don't think was touched upon as much as it could have been in some ways in Origins),  I definitely want another location.

thats actually not disappointing to me.  I wonder if there were specific reasons for this??  Im guessing it allows the story to address your character more thoroughly?  allow for sequels?

I'm not upset in the slightest, I find it amusing that the people who were saying Bioware was pushing for the 300 ADD crowd actually weren't overreacting doomsayers. Crow, it tastes funny.

And the English comment was fantastic. Kudos.

I can understand the disappointment of others, but I'm fine with this -- I only played through the Origins for the non-humans(I really liked the Dwarf noble's story.), but never the rest of the game.

Do we know if this means origin stories are cut? It sounds like the character has a bit of a past already(war vet).

As long as we can customize the looks, have romances still, and play as Morrigans child (maybe with references to the Warden, aka father you never knew) then my excitement will be wicked high. I have never completed Origins as anything except a human so the inability to play as different races doesn't bother me.
God I hope we play as the Godchild >:D
P.S. we don't know if he is a war vet, this could take place decades after the blight (the past 4 blights before the Fereldan one took several decades to recover)

Thank you.I do try.

As long as DA2 's storyline is fantastic and well-written,then I'm buying.
But I've been dissapointed by sequels before (NWN2,KotOR II) so fingers crossed that doesn't happen again.

EDIT: Oh,and romances. Please, please say there will be romances.
