@Ryllen Laerth: Not to worry, "Hawke" will be the last name. BTW, I also hope for a non-voiced character during conversations

So by looks of it, if this is true, going to be forced to play a male char? not good.
Nahh, I am fairly sure u can play as female
Hawke is a last name. You can be female.

As long as I can play a woman, I don't mind having my character name determined by the game. This is no different from the surname following the origin in the first game. Although "Hawke" does not have anywhere near the same "flavor" and appeal as Cousland, Aeducan or Mahariel. Those names were unique. "Hawke" is just an animal with an extra "e" to make it sound more "special".
Also, I for one am glad that this is no direct sequel, for one simple reason: my canon character, the only one I finished the game with, the only one I'm emotionally attached to, is dead. As a doornail. Yup, Ultimate Sacrifice. Nothing beats a good heroic death. By starting fresh with a new character, hopefully they will be less tempted to canonize a One True Warden which I would loathe, just as I loathed Lucas Arts retconning a gender on Revan. And admit it, folks, everyone has their own little fantasy about what your surviving Wardens' future would be like. There is no way that they could remotely satisfy the crowd that didn't sacrifice their character, there are just too many possibilities even in the canon endings, nevermind people's fantasy. The Ultimate Sacrifice is the perfect ending partly because it leaves no loose strings.
But yes, I too am a bit concerned about the game being dumbed down ME2-style (one reason why I did not buy that one). I hope Hawke will not be fully voiced, as that would be bound to cut the budget for other features.

dissapointing but i will wait to see gameplay video before i get nerd rage which probally wont happen untill next year sometime. But what does kinda ****** me off is my wardens stry is over at awakenings?? to me that is some BS where the F did morrigan go? Mybe just maybe this "hawke" is the child that morrigan concevied and is the blight surviver.
Hawke is Morrigan's child? Hmm, I didn't even think of that. You may have just completely shattered the entire story by inadvertently spoiling the game's plot twist.
Its been confirmed with a link that Hawke is NOT morrigans child, unfortunatley i am to lazy to track down said link tee hee(manly giggles)

Worst surname ever, someone is gonna pull a Tony Hawke here somewhere...
Beside can you imagine? "HAWKE!!! The city is being attacked!" Bleh
Cousland sounds better than Hawke, Hawke sounds like a fail superhero from the 80's, unless they pull off a pronunciation thing and pronounce it as Haw KAY, that might be okay... maybe..stevej713 wrote...

It's not that bad.

I have always picked human as well, and it sounds like they're going the mass effect/KOTOR route, a pre-defined back story and race but you pick gender, looks, personality, etc. Not a bad thing as I hugly enjoyed ME1.
On another note though I'm a little dissapointed that you can't, from the little we've been told so far, import you DA:O character like in ME2. hopefully the choices you picked in DAO are imported into the other, especially if it picks off right where the blight ended, ie the end of DAO. maybe bump into your DAO character if he is still alive.

What's the point in having elves and dwarves in the DA universe if you can't play as them?
Kind of a waste if you ask me.

"Hawke" associates in my mind with hawk and hawk associates with Harvey Birdman. Can't take that buffoon seriously.
