So by looks of it, if this is true, going to be forced to play a male char? not good.

That would shock me.  Any confirmation on that?

A blight? More darkspawn? SHOOT ME.

It says a survivor of the blight. So it'll be after the darkspawn threat is destroyed.

Maybe it's like the crows? and not a name at all.

I think it would be strange if they suddenly went with a ME style fixed protagonist in DA. They always said they wanted DA to be a more classic roleplaying game where you choose the gender and race ect.

Again: although it's just been clarified, 1) though there are elves and dwarves in game, our character is human, and 2) now apparently we know his (her?) name is Hawke, too. This doesn't disappoint me. I enjoy the modern RPG conventions introduced in Mass Effect; I trust Bioware to slowly reveal information, that though it changes as it undergoes development, I'm sure will be a AAA title as always. Excited for new info, with an open mind.

That doesn't sound like much of a gender neutral name, though. A different female character name/persona, perhaps?

I'm with the theory that Hawke is going to be a default name everyone calls our character since Warden is no longer an option. The question is, will Hawke be fully voiced like Mass Efffect's Shepard or is this just a means for NPCs to easily address her/him? I would be very surprised if BioWare locked us into playing a male. It's not like them at all. Too bad about being limited to humans though. That doesn't bother me since I always play humans, but I can see why others would be annoyed by the news.

It definitely seems they're miming Mass Effect, what with a fixed character and "cinematic" experience.

I don't get it- from my POV they're ripping out the stuff that made DAO unique and injecting ME into it. *sigh*

Again where did you hear this?  Is there a FAQ out?  That would baffle me completely.  People love playing female characters.

Is it possible that "Hawke" could be Morrigan's child? If so, that could mean that he or she could be an elf or a dwarf since I believe that children in Dragon Age assume the race of their fathers' [which makes no sense biologically, but I guess it makes the DA universe easier on game designers].

I hope that we can still choose to play as the different classes and still choose specialisations.

Different classes is confirmed according the website.

Personally, I hope we can still tweak the character's appearance (beards don't do it for me) and gender. I also hope there are still a variety of romance options out there. ME2 was notorious for killing any same-sex romance options, for instance. One thing I like about DA was its openness about those options. I hope they don't remove them now. I didn't think they would, but seeing as the game seems to be following ME's path, it just might.

After a decade, Hawke's gonna be the antagonist for DA3 and our Warden will come save the day against him. Oh wait that's Gothic.

After a decade, Morrigan's baby would be a little kid now wreaking havor across Thedas.

Hawke? Seriously?

I loved the naming conventions of Origins and Awakening, and the PC's name now is Hawke?

Your character's family name in Origins was pre-determined as well depending on what origin your character was. This isn't a shocking devleopment.

I think Priestly mentioned the PC is human only.

Hawke will be a last name like Shepard so all the NPC's can call you by name, although it's an absolutely ridiculous name. It's like a bad 80s fanfic of the next action hero.

Eyepatch. Cigar. Sparta. He. Is. HAWKE.

playing as a single character is not something new. It goes back to Knights of the Old Republic and way before.

Hawke is human, as confirmed by Chris. I'm thinking that yes, he's Morrigan's child.

But he can't be an elf. Human-elf parents always produce human children (regardless of the race of the father). Human-dwarves result in half-dwarfs, but these children are rare specimen.

My guess, if Hawke really is Morrigan's child, then he'll be the product of a union between Morrigan and Alistair or Morrigain and Loghain, depending on which ending gets canonized.

Well, my excitement is definitely tempering with the more information I discover. While I enjoy ME for what it is, playing a predetermined char in a DA sequel is REALLY disapointing.

What the hell. Human only? I don't mind the pre-determined name (since last names were pre-determined in Origins as well), but this is upsetting. No elf or dwarf player characters?
