I'm really more annoyed by the fact that you can only have 10 character slots which also gets consumed by porting your warden to awakening and other DLC's where you port your warden.

Well, EA uses this copyright management quite a lot with their games (although oddly enough not always). I doubt it's BioWare's decision to utilize it either, but I'd be surprised, if actually discussed, the decision couldn't be changed. I think it's merely something that's added as a matter of default, rather than a conscious decision. The "feature" is added in the encryption software for the PS3, so if you want to get technical, one COULD blame Sony for creating a poor solution. However, it's still the choice of the developer/producer to make use of it, and it's the choice of the consumer to support or not support companies that bend them over like this...
Unfortunately most people can't see further than their own nose, and refuse to see that they are not safe, just because it hasn't happened yet. I don't mean anybody in particular here - but I've have discussed this with a great deal of people, and there's an overwhelming amount of people, who say "what's the big problem?? I'll just play the game again!" - funnily enough none of those people have tried losing 100+ hours of game time to a hardware crash... Yet. They will.
Oh, and EA are by far not the only ones. Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed series have the same issue. EA's Army of Two: 40th Day as well (although not the first one, if I remember correctly). Split/Second Velocity is devious, as they don't use the standard inbuilt one. They let you copy/backup the save game, but if tried to load on other hardware, you'll be told the file is corrupt and must be deleted before you can save again.
As for the discussion of platforms - it's irrelevant. We have different platforms, and we stick with them - comments such as "buy it for the PC" or "get an Xbox", or even the all present "ps3 sux" are counterproductive, and honestly quite moronic if not downright adolescent. Xbox however, just to clarify, does not have problems transferring said save games - harddrive can be switched into other hardware. Due to encryption and encryption keys unique to each PS3, harddrives can not be interswitched on that platform. Dead hardware means reinstallation of your harddrive, even if it's doing perfectly fine.
It is possible to transfer ALL content, including copyrighted material, between two FUNCTIONING PS3s, clearing out the original to move to a new machine. With hardware failure this is of course not a usable solution.
