hi folks at bioware,

there are a few question running through my head constantly:

will dragon age 2 be modable with the existing toolset (with an updated version) or do we need a completely different toolset?

will dragon age 2 be modable at all?

will the support for the toolset of dragon age: origins stop (if it have not stopped already...)?

well, i got a bad feeling for the lifespan of the whole modding community with such a rushed sequel. anyway thx for answering my questions ;)

I think we can bank on it being moddable (on the PC, anyway). That's how they do things. (ME excepted, and that wasn't a PC-lead game).

Whether the toolset will be compatible is a good question, though. But don't assume the game will be rushed, just because it didn't take 7 years to make. :)

i don't think it's strongly rushed in production but it's pushed out too soon after releasing dragon age origins. i know they've got more that 2 years to develope da2.

and the "rushed" idea was born because of the production time of a community made module. to get familiar with the toolset and to produce good modules you need a lot of time. now if dragon age 2 will be modable with a new and better engine but a similar toolset nobody will be creating stuff for da1. also if there won't be a toolset for da2 the modding community will slowly die because less people will play da1 and the support from bioware for da1 and the toolset will be dropped. support costs money and ea does not deal with such a thing ;)

that all sounds like a doom loop.

There needs to be a toolset, so modders can fix the inevitable bugs without us having to wait months for patches that don't even repair them

With all the graphics improvements, I expect they would release a new improved toolset . I am also assuming they will be improving on the animation standards/freedom as well....I really do hope the new theoretical toolset (if any) would be compatible with the old, as well as provide more advanced options, and better all around rendering :D I find just the idea of it exciting.

I really hope that there is a toolset and that it's similar to the current one. When I started modding DA:O I thought that the game would have a much longer lifespan. Two or three expansions at least. If the franchise is going to follow the pattern of having a new game released every two years / eighteen months then a lot of the modding community just isn't going to keep up. While I can't speak for everyone I'd much rather release content for a game that people are playing than a game that the vast majority of the player base consider to be 'old'.
