Yeah, I sympathise with anyone worried about DA2 right now, even if I didnt care for DAO myself.

I was likewise worried about ME2 after a certain number of things slowly crept out. Lo and behold, it was a dumbed down whisp of an RPG being crushed by a Gears of War clone, and with a mediocre story and expendable characters to boot.

I also remember no shortage of forumites ready to whine at the first sign of any "whining", which is doubtless what is going to happen here, or is already happening right now.

Still, I guess if this becomes to standard Bioware model (1.Dumb down 2. Profit!) I wont be worrying about their games much longer.

Personally, I don't think they would call it "Dragon Age 2" if it would not be similar in style and gameplay. That might mean development or simplification, but I suspect they will keep the basic format.

You people are ridiculous. We know NOTHING about the gameplay beyond the standard RPG boilerplate, we've seen no videos of any kind, and people are already freaking out.

remember the dumbed down trailers just to amaze some console buddys? now read the published facts about dragon age 2. do you spot similarities?

I hope DA2 won't be dumbed down to cater to those who can't game their way out of a wet paper bag and who can't complete a puzzle in Lego Harry Potter without whining and complaining that it's too hard.

There's far too much dumbing down in gaming as it is. Challenges are becoming few and far between.

Whatever happened to improving, developing new skills and learning due to a game having a challenge? Do people want it all handed to them on a silver platter without making any effort just to have everything be easier for them?

It's pathetic.

This might have been said before but I'm too lazy to read three pages.

I really hope they are not turning Dragon Age into Mass Effect. I like Mass Effect for the character VA and action-packed combat, and I like DA for the deep rpg elelments and tactical combat. I love both and frequently play both. But it seems like BioWare is trying to make them the same thing.

Of course, I don't know anything because the trailer isn't even out yet.

Also what would be even worse is if they dumbed it down like in ME2. Now I'm not saying I only play intelligent games for a hardcore gamer such as myself or anything, but I like when a game actually requires thought.

Look, ME was a shooter with clunky and unnecessary RPG elements. DAO is an RPG at it's core.

actually you have that backwards..it was an RPG with clunky shooting elements (same reason Alpha Protocol has been blasted in reviews with stat based to-hit instead of aiming)

instead of FIXING the rpg elements that needed fixed..they stripped them almost entirely and turned ME2 into a choose your own adventure shooter.

but regardless..as I said..you got it backwards.

ME2 was ick. I expected something like that to happen with DA and it seems just like that is what is going to happen.

They threw out inventory, character stats, and any other resemblance to RPG in ME2...basically just turned it into a full shooter.

They'll call it DA2 to have people that loved Origins to eat it right up when they've possibly gone and made Mass Effect: Dragon Age Edition.

This is by far my biggest concern. No doubt they are trying to mainstream the franchise just like they did with Mass Effect. I fear the worst until they can convince me otherwise.

Its not BioWare, Its EA that is making them do this. EA do this to each and every software developer they buy. The bleed them dry then close them down.

The only way DAO could have been easier is if they had a "win" button. If dumbing down means getting rid of a lot of the useless abilities and making the combat more engaging than I am all for it.

Yes, it's all a big conspiracy.

Or maybe BioWare is the de-facto RPG division of Electronic Arts, still operated by Ray Muzyka.

I will welcome a change to DA combat. Spamming pots as an "IWIN" button isn't what I'd call "smart" design. Having hundreds of skills but less than a handful be of any use isn't what I'd call "smart" design. Having a limited inventory system filled to the brim with useless garbage isn't what I'd call "smart" design. etc. etc.

People set in their ways and are incapable of change thought ME2 was "dumbed down". I thought it was intelligently improved.
If BioWare removes the tedium in DA's gameplay from DA2, then I will consider it to be intelligently improved as well.

Spoken like true casual, console players (maybe not console, but definitely lacking the ability to be creative and try other skills and whatnot on different playthroughs. open your mind dudes...or dudettes)

There were times when I didn't think a certain skill or spell "branch" did much.... but then I actually TRIED IT OUT!! And guess what, I've found that all the ones I've tried so far have their strengths depending on how you play the game. They are far from useless. The only thing that is useless in this circumstance is YOUR ability to find a use. Its there, if you think and adapt a strategy. Geez, casual player brains strikes again. Oh, I believe you'll get your wish with the dumbed down deal. Hey, if you ask nicely, I bet they'll make enemies glow red so you don't get confused as to who is who.

First of all BGDA and BGDA 2 are both awesome games, that have nothing to do with Bioware RPGs.

2nd of all, we already have threads about this

You mean there was a preview video and they demo'd it on the XBOX and PC fantards am cried, meanwhile Bioware officially declared that rumor bunk weeks ago.

God of Force Unleashed was the best sellin' Star Wars game ever, I bet this will feature a similar combat system.

Even people who liked TFU like me, admit that TFU was a very good $20 game, and not at all worth $60 because of the length, and cut and paste levels/combat.

TFU is one of the best Star Wars BETA TESTS for an action game ever :)

Except the story, rpg elements, squadmate dialogues, and the actual shooting, ya.

It did have a better cover system though :pinched:

Glad to see the insanity of "ME2 is better !!!! GRAFFIX AND TATTED STRIPPERS PWNS!" isn't as prevalent as we fear.

Volume NOT= quality.

you could take half of the ME2 characters and throw them in the trash,  Jack, the Zaed loser, filler/cliche nonsense.

You are the audience Bioware is now going for.  Who wants tedious "gameplay" when instead we can just remove gameplay systems and give people purty graffix of Tattood reality TV show style characters in "visceral
/cinematic" moments.

Gameplay is for nerds!  Shooting things and "chose response for unfunny character talking to no one response" pwnz n0o9bs!   I can't wait til DA2 is online and I can pay $15 for map packs and :SKINS lulz" in MP deatmatch!

I loved ME2, but I don't want DA2 to be anything like that. I want different things from different types of games. ME2 is a nice shooter with a great cinematic presentation, while DA:O is a deep, complex RPG. Merging these two games is blasphemy.
