Way to trick everyone to clicking your thread OP ;-).

I'm all for people expressing their opinions, but given how little information is available about this game and the fact it's been about two hours since it was announced, I'd wait a few months before making any decisions about how awesome/garbage the game is going to be.

If Bioware wants to take some gameplay mechanics from ME2, I say more power to them. The combat improvements made from ME1 to ME2 made the game so much better, IMO. Sure it takes it away from being a purer RPG, but ME2 received critical acclaim for being a hybrid RPG/Shooter, and its a formula that works well for Bioware.

They must've expected the backlash.
Also I really do hope that the character generator will be KING now that they 'only' need to consider humans.

Yeah, but to me ME was always an Action RPG, and ME2 was more streamlined and a tighter more focused experience, but Dragon Age is NOT the ME Franchise. It's kinda like making Gears of War 4 into a Splinter Cell game.

There is always going to be a backlash and people calling out bloody murder. But its just as myopic for the people to praise BioWare on a game none of us have played as it is to bash them.

I'm not too thrilled with everything I've seen thus far but I'm willing to give it a chance. I have my concerns and red flags have been raised, but I'm hoping much of the stuff thats worrying to me is just marketing talk trying to appeal to the mass market.

This game could be awesome or it could be utter rubbish. Time will tell...

I don't think the game will be rubbish, but I am wondering at the moment, due to SPARSE information whether you can truly call this a Dragon Age sequel. It seems more like a game that would fit the idea of Spin Off instead. but again SPARSE information.

I'm keeping my hopes up. However, from the looks of it, DA2 sounds like a Mass Effect-game, and not that I have anything against Mass Effect, I'm just not too exited about playing another ME game so soon after ME2...

This is just my opinion, though.

Exactly. This is what I don't get. A sequel in my view deals with the same characters and such. Thats why I hated NWN and its expansions- they just ditch the PC's and move from Epic Story to Epic Story.

Its only DA because its seemingly still set in Thedas and seemingly there are darkspawn still running around.

But I'd agree its more a spin off than  a proper sequel to Origins. I really hope they name it something besides just Dragon Age 2. I thought the whole point with Origins was that they wouldn't devolve into the lazy naming habits that plague "sequels" in so many games.

If you play Morrigan's kid or if Morrigan is an important, increasingly draconic character then I'd think of it as a direct sequel as opposed to a spinoff.  But that stuff isn't confirmed yet...one can hope.

a Dragon Age sequel.

Dragon Age was never a trilogy. So DA1 could never have a sequel.

I agree maybe they should have another name besides DA2 as Dragon Age has a lot of lore asscociated with it and could in theory have many games based on the DA setting. Perhaps they should have called it 'Dragon Age Tales' leaving the door open (so to speak) for more games in the series.;)
