Weapons and fighting styles in Dragon Age 2?

Firstly I would like to see support for a single one handed weapon/Bastard sword style sword fighting technique as curiously it was absent in the first game.
It looks like spears will be in game and I am stoked about that but what about halberds? Also since it also looks like the spear the character is holding is one handed would it be possible to see a spear and shield fighting style similar to the spartans?
I know a whip would be asking a bit too much but still it would be cool.
But what weapons would you like to see in the game?

up, right, down, B: fireball
left, left, right : Knockdown
up, left, down, right, hold down x and tirangle : Fatality!!
And yes all players on the PC must own a gamepad to play DAO2

Shields are for wimps, dual wielding is for savages and two handers are for overcompensators. Let us fight like civilised people Bioware!

The DA2 combat system still has a lot of potential to be excellent and so I will not comment on that till early gameplay combat videos come out.

And ..... horses! But since there is a zero chance for them they could just keep them for cinematic parts.

Ohhh hell no. Firearms...are you serious? I fantasy games like DA because there are no guns. All you have is your steel and your skill. Leave the the guns in Mass Effect.pprrff wrote...
Firearms is what we need. Bows are arrows are alright, but I wouldn't mind if people in Theda actually devote some time for technology improvement. I would love to have a musket.

Actually Stens people have gunpowder, they've only progressed as far as cannons to my knowledge though.

Perhaps you will always control your PC and you command your party members to "form up" around you. This would emphasize strategic formations on the battlefield.
If my PC were a warrior, I might order my party to get behind me. If I were an archer or mage, I might order my party to form a wall to protect me. If I were in trouble I would order my party to break formation and fall back to a more defendable spot. In any case, your party would move and fight as one, following the commands of their general.
Of course, this is all speculation based on the few pictures and descriptions that have been released.
Thoughts?

A Phalanx is a great battlefield tactic (assuming hellenistic level tech) when it's made up of a couple of hundred warriors and it's supported by some calvary and other light infantry, but three guys? It would be ridiculously easy to flank them, or harass them with missile weapons.

Those type of tactics are typical of what you'd see in a battlefield, not on the streets of a town or in the forest, not with 4 or 6 individuals involved.

Agreed. However, I doubt they will make the combat system to precisely simulate the phalanx. What I am saying is they might be heading towards a more squad-based system. Even with only a few characters, one could come up with various formations depending on the terrain, type of enemy, and play style of the player.
I just think it would be interesting if you could control your squad as though they were a single unit. Instead of issuing commands to each character individually, you command the unit as a whole. You set up formations and objectives for your unit and then follow through by controlling your PC during combat.
If things get dicey, you pause the game, and call for a new formation and set a revised objective for your squad, then go back to the slice and dice again.
I fully admit that this discussion is based on a battle system that I completely made up based on vague information given by the developers.

Right now there is no dodging and very little deflecting and footwork. You can't tell by the animations who is winning, or even if you hit or miss. You have to rely on the text pop ups and the health bar. I'd like to be able to see that my character just stabbed someone because, well, I just saw him do it. Or that he deflected an incoming blow with his sword because, well, I just saw him do it.
