In Mass Effect, you got about 6 squad mates, in Mass effect 2, you pretty much got double that amount maybe more with the DLC squad mates.
In Dragon Age, you got about 9 companions on your journey throught out Ferelden. In one of the images on the main site, in the background, it shows you the concept of the hero, and in the background it shows a bunch of shadowed out people.
Which makes me believe that 1. You get like a party mansion instead of a camp. And 2. If I'm right, and there are about double or so more companions to get in DA2, then maybe you'd have to get some the first time, and the others the second time around, adding to the replayability.
That's just my theory anyway.
ALOT more new characters?

The game plot takes a decade. Might be that some companions only are with you for some years of the story. I hope that wouldn't hurt character depth.
But we don't know IF this are indeed the companions, so i'm not nervous.

I trust Bioware's writing team. I'm sure the characters will be great.
I hope we get some characters as good as Garrus, Tali, Alistair and Morrigan.

I trust them as I thought the ME 2 batch was a good bunch I'm just concerned. One of the things I loved about DAO was the ambient companion to companion dialogue that occured when you walked about. Sadly this did not exsist in ME 2, I assume because it was far easier to figure out 9 npcs interacting with other rather then 14 or whatever ME 2 was.
They can add whoever they like I'd just prefer a bit more companion to companion interaction then me 2 had.

There is a thread around here that gives proof that there might be as many as around 16 new comrades. But who knows, I am looking forward to reading the new Game Informer for more info!

Could probably hurt or deepen character depth.
You'd grow attached to different characters seeing them grow older and having some leave/die and have some that stay with you until the very end. That'd be cool.
It'd also be cool to have your very own keep of some sort.

If they still have romances (likely), having it follow a decade of storyline will probably let it advance a lot further than any of the romances done in the other Bioware games considering those are often in short 2-3 month timespans.
