I always play as human in rpgs anyway so this decision to only be human doesnt bother me. Dont get me wrong if it was only elf or only dwarf DA2 I would be miffed like some of you here. My question is what was the reason(s) to make a human character only game for Dragon Age 2? I have several ideas/ guesses but I was wondering if someone from bioware could answer this?
thanks for any info!

My guess, and the guess of many people right now, is that it has something to do with the Dark Ritual ending of Origins. I suspect we'll have to wait and see right now, since everyone's just speculating on a few lines of info.

your probably right......maybe you can only be human because your the son of Morrigan who is human?

The reason is probably because the story wouldn't make sense if you were an elf or dwarf, given the cultural and societal differences between them.

uh more like you are the new messiah God born looking like a human who will forever change the face of the world, and the Chantry

If I want to play human, i'll stick with ME, Fallout, or some other game of that type.

For a more defined character, most likely. I don't really mind.

What it takes to get their attention is profit loss...but then they'll probably just fire more people and blame it on the economy.

ok...while I'm trying to squash rising panic like the rest of you.....
has it be confirmed we HAVE to play a guy? Or can it be a woman as well?
Shoot... if even I have to play as a man.... can I least customize him...?
(enters I will not panic mode.....)

Because they want to establish a set hero like Shepard in Mass Effect. The guy from the first game doesn't really have a set identity.

Just for the record, you're not the child of Morrigan.
Being human probably has some reasons plot-wise. It's easier to write plots if the main character has a set name and background (if you have two choices, you only need to write two outcomes, whereas in DA:O, two choices might have as much as 12 outcomes, based on origins, with the various outcomes only being marginally different). Voiced PC is also a possible reason. Maybe it's to lower the amount of different permutations, so Dragon Age 3 WILL continue with this character? Could also be marketing reasons. The fact the guy's name is 'Hawke' points to as much.

The character is human because it's Duncan.

Seeing as I got bored to death every single time I tried playing as a human Warden, this does not bode well. D: I'm missing my scrawny knife-ears already!
