Well I guess this annoncement has confirmed what I suspected all along, did anyone really wonder why the first Dragon Age was called Origins?

From the moment I got up to the Dark Ritual on my first playthrough I knew the answer. Origins was only the beginning of something bigger, the true story would start in Dragon Age 2 and Origins was pretty much to explain the origin of the main character in Dragon Age 2. As many of you would have guessed by now Hawke (That is the name they are going with right?) is Morrigans child and Dragon Age 2 will be his story. Chris Priestly's confirmation that we will not be able to choose our race is only further proof of this theory.

Before the announcement I always wondered how they would implement races in Dragon Age 2 since your mother would be human, would your character be dwarf or elf with human blood or would the choice be taken away altogether? The choice of races was the only hiccup with the theory that you would be playing as Morrigans child but now that I know we can only be human I guess that pretty much confirms for me that you will be Morrigans child.

I know some people are pissed because this means your choices wont carry over but then I never really expected they would, just because it was in Mass Effect it would be dangerous to assume that Dragon Age 2 would feature this as well.

Hell I am excited and I cant wait to see the reveal trailer.

Origins:

1) Origin of Dragon Age franchise.

2) Major feature of first game that apparently will not be present in this game.

Naa, Hawke isn't Morrigan's child, that draconic-looking witch in the concept art is. I'm calling it.

THANK YOU.

It's like Mass Effect set a standard that all sequels from Bioware then to be a direct continuation of the first's storyline since Mass Effect, while I'm a little saddened that I won't be seeing my loveable companions and such - I didn't hold out much hope.

Actually mass effect was not nearly the first Bioware game to be a continuation of the first's storyline. Baldur's gate was long before that. Me 1 and 2 merely refined the formula.

But Hawke has a draconic looking claw as well. It could be that the concept is of the female PC or Morrigan had twins and she is your twin sister and possible rival?

Hawke's claw just looks like a clawed gauntlet, unlike the witch's claw in her concept art.

I think you're likely right at this point,I am disappointed that I won't get continue the story of my Gray Warden it would of made meeting Morrigan again more interesting, but seeing that if you did go through with the dark ritual you're basically going to be playing as your child and I had a feeling that might end up happening. Looking at the early artwork it does appear that Morrigan will likely have some kind of major role to play, unless I missed my guess it sure does look like an older version of her in the DA2 artwork.

Look at his hand of the front cover of game informer, it looks more like a claw there.

However, if you do indeed play as Morrigan's child, then I'm guessing they've established the ritual as being canon to the story. Remember, the ritual was optional - it could be done with Alistair or not done at all (Morrigan flees).

That's what I was looking at. To me, it looks like a gauntlet.

Why does no one think that the two characters shown so far are the possible male and female PC? Dont you think they both could possibly be Morrigan's child depending on if you want to be male or female?

Because Bioware never market both sexes of the main character, and Chris Priestly made it clear in another thread that so far they haven't for this game either.

Yea that's going to be awkward to just about everyone who played DAO. Seeing Morrigan in a "mom" role.

I can hear it now,

"Dude your mom was so hot like ten years ago"

"Shut up"

Let the "your mom" jokes begin.

It seems more like saying goodbye.

Until the EA hitsquad shows up to confiscate my BG and NWN discs I'm fine with that.
