Actually mass effect was not nearly the first Bioware game to be a continuation of the first's storyline. Baldur's gate was long before that. Me 1 and 2 merely refined the formula.

True, yet Mass Effect was the one that set it as a standard.

Who said he was a blight survivor?

We did. :)

Which means that Morrigan is not his mother and Hawke is not the god child in DA2.

That addresses that...so that just leaves us with who exactly is Hawke?

But it leads to more speculation:

"Dragon Age 2 thrusts players into the role of Hawke, a penniless refugee who rises to power to become the single most important character in the world of Dragon Age."

The single most important character in Thedas? I'm curious. I hope that the first game still provides a background for this one in some way.

Origins:

1) Origin of Dragon Age franchise.
2) Major feature of first game that apparently will not be present in this game.

Also:
3) a return to BioWare's origins with Fantasy RPGs.

Maybe a return to BioWare's Baldur's Gate series soon too ? Please :)

Wonderful, which means Morrigans god child is running around somewhere and will have to deal with him/her at some point a Gray Warden/Old God hybrid out for world domination I'm guessing?

No, more likely it'll be a dangling plotline never referred back to.

Which might be a good idea, judging by how much it polarizes the fanbase.

which you are obviously throwing out the window...with no small amount of help from EA I'm sure..with the new game.

turning it into Mass Effect with swords?  forcing one character with a ****** (I might add) name like "hawke" that only allows us to make them male or female....

you guys -really- couldn't come up with a better idea other then to mimic ME??

Ok, so Hawke isn't Morrigan's son.

Guess that still leaves a question is the woman with dragon horns, claws and white hair is actually Morrigan?

Judging by her facial features and looks it seem likely that she is.

Am I the only one upset by the possibility that the dark ritual will be cannon?

One person dying, doing their duty, always seemed better to me that giving an apathetic apostate mage an old god born from your seed.

EDIT - Well I didn't read the BioWare poster.. i'm just going to leave quietly.

That's just grand. Now Hawke's origin is he's just some random goof who didn't die in the blight.

You're pulling my chain, man. I was dead set on thinking Hawke was Morrigan's son. I can't accept being wrong!! Until I know for sure who or what he is, I'm going to continue believing what I want. Hmph! :pinched:

a.) godbaby?
or
b.) dead warden?

if you're answer is b....don't ever try to write anything of your own.

Doesn't matter what I say, judging by your opinions on what little we've seen, you've already LOST and DA2 isn't the game you're looking for.

Well thats a bit of a let down, so Hawke is just a regular human? I could forgive not being able to chose our race if Hawke had a remarkable origin that was vital to the plot but if he/she is just some person who survived the blight why couldnt we have had the choice to be an elf or a dwarf that survived the blight?

So yeah I guess that does leave us with the question of who Hawke is and why the hell he is so special? I mean if he doesnt have an origin that is vital to the plot why would it hurt to give him/her more options when it comes to customization? This was my biggest problem with Mass Effect, sure in a game like Planescape Torment I understand why you have a fixed character, but in a game like Mass Effect where anyone could fill the role I really dont understand why you dont give your players more tools and freedom to create his/her own character.

I guess we shall find out more about the character soon and I guess this is the direction the devs have chosen, the devs are going to make the game they want to make and the image of the game I have in my head will not come to pass. I guess I am a little dissapointed but then there is only one person to blame for that, DAVID GAIDER myself.

Oh well it is nice to have dev confirmation anyway and I guess we can stop speculating on this, I guess I just have to take consolation in that my idea was cooler Image IPB.

Just because Hawke isn't Morrigan's child in no way indicates that he's normal or that he doesn't have an origin that is vital to the plot.
