The info we´ve got implies, that we get a rushed cinematic hack&slay.
Predifened character and new combat system. THESE are the important points you want to inform us about?

I don´t know why I´m commenting it, as Bioware seems simply always to do the opposite of what the community wishes. I thought it was clear, that everybody loved the freedom to pick his own origin.

After LS DLC I hoped that it goes in the right direction, but this is a slap in the face of the old fans.

I hope you designer guys strand on an desert-island for 30 years with nothing but a laptop with only a bugged version of Chronicles of Darkspawn working on it...

Yeah, in Halo I play the "role" of master chief that doesn't make it an RPG.

Ouch. But to be honest, nobody's stated that the origins are gone. The devs may simply be keeping the specific stories under wraps until they're ready to make a big deal of them. The origin stories play a huge part in establishing your character's identity, and unless Bioware is willing to do away with characterization entirely, they'll leave the origin stories in there so as to allow the player to understand and develop empathy for the character they play as.

Hehehehe ... I giggled.=]

But I think its pretty clear the Origins are gone. The whole fixing of the PC as Hawke who starts as a penniless refugee and works his/her way up from rags to riches doesn't leave a whole lot of wiggle room.

Maybe we'll be surprised but do not trust to hope. It has forsaken these lands /Eomer'd

to tell the truth, I was shocked reading news for DA2

i must say this way - what the hell is wrong with desingers??

lets take ME1, i love it, finished it 7 times completely with every quest, every part, loved it
system had its own problems, but the ones that could easily been corrected in sequel
but what ME2 brought was ... dumbing down entire galaxy. im still saying that ME2 is game with highest unused potential as game can be
all the little things that created universe were dispersed, and we got long hike around galaxy in collecting more or less interesting characters that in the end click on relay in really dumb, no tense ending without the trace of that fantastic real SF movie action hype feeling
we get captain terminator that badass mofo Shepard The Great blows on foot
left me wondering - did guy who wrote and guys who made ME1 really work on ME2?

anyway, why mentioning ME2 here? - becouse of one little fact that most people will agree - DAO is a far superior game. it is better, it is more mature, it gives more.

did developers read anything after game came out? what fans and reviews said about game?
how the hell after creating something like that anyone can get idea to create some generic lame ass character Hawke that sounds like some dumb **** from JRPGs?

he is poor survivor of blight, but his heart and spirit is strong enough to conquer the world!!so nothing can stop him to gathers band of badass friends and ignore the fact that such pathetic trash would die in dirt in DAO, and even if he is *****n pesant he THINKS like general and FIGHTS like SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN

are you serious?
dumb down character to some lame ass? dumb down what DAO had and get it closer to ME2?
i really hope this is just lack of information

i dont mind change of character, but i want that character to be mine, not some preset douche
why not start somewere in great land of Thedas years from DAO, and meet lone warden in search for his mystical witch love? or meet that same witch? spy with sly orleasian redhair bard? meet great qunari general? or great king of Ferelden with his beautiful warden commander wife?
game should evolve, but not in ME2 way.
DAO gave dark, fantastic, rich world where person could do whatever and that should be kept
not going on dumb console pg13 with some HAWKE I R serious character and Shepards great x19 greatgrandfather

What deus said

What the heck is wrong with developers these days? The trend to not expand upon what they made in a game but to cut from it for a sequel?

First cutting out real inventory and option to equip armors and more weapons in ME2 for all characters, and now this?

Thats how they get them out fast.
But i am sick of sequels that cut the stuff i loved from the original.

it smells of devolution right?

as if humans would want to become cavemen again

I'll be honest, this launch was pretty lukewarm.

Some guy from near mountains I've never heard of... somewhere. Not Orlais. Same 3 classes. Archdemon child ruled out. He's a survivor, he's fighting the Blight... again. Uh......... I'll withhold judgment, but not particularly enticing.

Ok I love how people assuming are being called immature and people who disagree with the op are whining right back like children too.

Do I like this? No, really. My big problems are the one species no zooming out bye bye my character thing. Shoot, I learned it was a new character hours ago shrugged it off and went cool. Drew my new warden up.

Now I'm displeased. I hate the name hawke and having everything like origin being decided for me. Nonetheless, I'll wait for something more than this and live with my displeasure. Sigh....

The OP of this topic is pretty ungrateful, especially considering we don't even know a whole lot about the game yet.

But you can go back to the first Dragon Age if you want, but I'm sure you'll change your mind when you see all the content they will put out later this year.

The content will not matter if the same basic premice still exists, and it will.  Srappy human sword!Shep claws his way to the top.

People are upset because they sold us a classic style RPG, and now when we clammor for more we get an "action adventure" title instead.

I find it amusing that the op is not, despite the title, waiting to find out the what.

lol It happens every time. When a new game is released there are people who will complain about it, and there are people who will complain about the people complaining about the new game. It happened with Awakening and it is no surprise that is happening with DA2.

Well, the OP's mind is made up with the news being roughly 4 hours old. Certainly there is nothing more to say, be shown or learn between now and launch.

Oh wait, actually there is pretty much everything to learn between now and launch.

This is just the reveal folks. I caution people from saying either "this is the worst or best ever blah blah blah" until you actually start to learn about things. As I said, this is just the very start of a lot of information to come before we launch. Lots more information and details to come. Stay tuned.

Thanks, Chris. While my optimism hasn't exactly been fanned by what I have read so far, I'll reserve judgment until I see a trailer and have read more info on what you guys are planning. Bioware is my fave game developer of all time (Well, except the now defunct Sierra) and I hope that DA2 will prove my pessimism wrong tenfold! Image IPB

What is the Shepard system you refer to?  Do you mean having a fixed character instead of mutiple origins?  Because so far, what DA2 sounds like is the first game, but without multiple Origins - you can still choose the character's sex and class.

A hell of a lot more than just that.

Shepard is a third person character: You are not Shepard, you are watching Shepard and influencing the way Shepard interacts with the world.  In Dragon Age, your character is you.  The decisions they make are your own, and you interact world from a first person perspective.  It's not "What do you want to do Shepard", it's "What do you want to do?" and the difference is astounding from a role playing perspective.

THIS! It may seem like a SMALL difference, but it is not. That amazing detail has not been seen since BG, and even BG did not allow you to be your own person in the game!

That's because in Origins you weren't addressed by your surname. You were simply called Warden.

no that is wrong you were called a few times by your surname especially if yo uwere noble

the main issue here is that while you had different races and origins to chose from in DA1, in DA2 we lose this possibility

it still can go both ways good or bad i however agree with the concerns voiced by most posters here

but i will reserve my final judgement until there is more info released on DA2

from what is released at this point things do not bode well however

i must ad to this that there is indeed very little to go on i hope BW will not let us down
