I'm not straight up bashing ME, I rather like the game, but I really prefer being able to make more realistic choices, that aren't clearly "good" or "evil." It's just far more realistic and engaging, for me. To me, this is what will make or break the new conversation system.

Addai67 has a valid point. Although I found it kind of fun to see what Shepard was actualy going to say. I will be fine with the wheel as long as our conversation options and quest solutions aren't simplified to "good" or "evil," ie, paragon or renegade. That system takes away roleplayability and forces you to just go with good or evil or the game mechanics will punish you for it later, like it does in ME.

Well they said they aren't planning on simplifiying DA's morality to good and evil.

And you don't feel that having a voice actor picked for your character is limiting? Does it affect replayability?Riona45 wrote...
With the voiced PC (as in Mass Effect), conversations feel more "natural" to me, and the PC is actually on equal footing with the NPCs. Yeah, you don't get to choose exactly what they're saying...but then, you never did that with the dialogue tree either.
I hope that at least sorta kinda give you my answer to your question.
Thank you for answering, BTW. I realize I didn't give a very good basis on which to start an honest conversation.

I get why some people find it limiting (only one voice per gender, after all), but does it bother me? No, as long as the voice is good, and since BioWare is known for stellar production values I'm not worried at all that the voice won't be good.
Does it affect replayability?
Not for me.

You're very welcome.

I really hope this proves to be true (in a real sense).
If so, the V-O won't limit my feelings on roleplayability/replayability, as long as the voice acting is well done. I thought it was good in ME. But this is probably more of a matter of personal taste, than anything else.

Yeah, I hope it turns out to be true too.

I think you put in a neat package some of the things I hate about it.Hell Mutant wrote...

a) Referring to your PC in "distant" terms.
It's fine that Mass Effect is this way. More power to the Mass Effecters. It is just baffling why the ONE game which did this and did it well, proving it could be successful, is now being held up by its own developers as an example of hopelessly outdated gaming.
But, there's no use gnashing teeth any longer regarding DA2, and something this structural is probably beyond even the modders' ability to fix. I just hope the devs reverse themselves for DA3 as surely as they've done in this interview versus the 2009 promotion of Origins.
Here, let me help: "In DA3, Dragon Age returns to its roots, the things that made the first game so successful..."

People do. not. know. what. casual. actually. implies
stop throwing that word around
if DA2 looked like Bejeweled, then yes it is being "casualized"
Its not. Different =/= casualized
Simpler =/=casualized
most people here are using that term the same way shows like x play and attack of the show use them, not to mention magazines.
Edit: my picture disapeared what the heck?

See, the thing about "you never did with the dialogue tree either" is that because those lines weren't actually spoken, it was very easy to view them -- for the most part, assuming the NPC's reply didn't throw the words back at you -- as nothing more than a paraphrase. Not what you were actually saying, but the closest thing to it.Riona45 wrote...

I hope that at least sorta kinda give you my answer to your question.
Take the hoo-ha regarding Ser Cautherien and how easy she was to persuade with a simple "(Persuade) You know Loghain is wrong, do the right thing". Back then, Gaider told us that the persuade options were meant to be abstracted, somewhat. The character didn't just say that, but delivered an actual argument that convinced Ser Cautherien that they were right.
I'm not really bothered about DA2 having a voiced protagonist, but I think the above is definitely worth pointing out.

Sometimes my favorite part of a rpg is just seeing the reactions of the npcs around me, I hope Bioware keeps that feeling.
