My post had nothing to do with the dialogue system in DA2, I was merely trying to defend the much-maligned console users who have been ripped to shreds by many on these forums, blamed for the changes Bioware has decided to make.

PS: I do not like the wheel dialogue system anymore than anybody else posting on the subject.

I appologise for the missunderstanding. I do still stand with what I said about the dialogue wheel, ofcourse.

No need to apologise, just clearing things up.

ME style conversation wheel?

Ugh.

Otherwise mostly good news.

I'm not usually a huge fan of Game Informer, but I'll have to pick up this issue to check out what few details will likely be provided. It'll probably be worth it just for the eye candy alone, though.

If the dialogue wheel is practically a very improved version to what we had in the Leliana DLC, that would be nice. In fact it would be nice if it didn't have to be a 'wheel' at all in the PC version - there's no reason the exact same data can't be used in a slightly different presentation format. We'll see what they decide.

I'm mostly worried about how dialogues will work with party members myself which is rather independent from this actually. I'm very relieved about the combat info.

Imagine Dragon Age with exactly the same dialogue options it does now. In addition to that, some lines have icons next to them indicating the tone of the line where it is not necessarily clear. Now I know when I'm making a sarcastic response or a joke. Sounds like a win to me.

If that was the case, it would be win. But remember that it isn't the same options - it is a summary that will probably be poor. In ME2 there were plenty of times where I selected an option, only to have Shepard talk about something else. That didn't happen in DAO. However - I do like the sarcastic/aggressive indicators, just not the summarizing

Some good info, thanks! Although I liked DA:O's dialogue system well enough, I don't have a problem with the ME2-style wheel - I've always found that my Shepards have had plenty of dialogue options, and I've never heard them say anything I found inappropriate to what I wanted.

Love the idea of a more personal narrative that spans years - done well, this could be something along the lines of Planescape:Torment or Mask of the Betrayer, and I'd be extremely happy with that.

Sounds like I'll be buying for the PC (depending on specs, of course), since I'd like to import my save if possible, plus I am a fan of the old pause and play; but if the console combat is considered particularly good, I may pick it up for the 360 too. Definitely no PC/Console prejudice here! x

When is that issue due to come out?

Also, if someone would be so kind as to post some of the more important statements from the article. (don't have GI in my country, and I'm sure that a portion of the forumites also doesn't)

Thanks in advance.

Can those who have it be so kind and type a transcript? I know, I know.. it's much work but it's summer and they're good souls and they'll let us have it so we can start debating about something else. :)

PS. Or.. split the work between you, 1 types the first few pages etc.

this is funny they are trying to make, DA Mass Effect but the majority of mass effect players ive seen hate dragon age and the majority of dragon age fans hate mass effect, looks like theyve gone greedy and tried to widen there profit, but after reading this fourm and the others seems to have backfired seems everyone apart from the few hate it already

Yeah, I love both games.  I don't think there's any evidence that the fans of each game are split into tribes that hate each other, either. :)  People are doing a lot of projecting and assuming that their opinion represents the majority.

I just got my GI in the mail today and I have to say the article made me very excited :3

I was originally against all of the changes they are making but after a couple of days of thinking it over the changes arent that bad. I'll give them a chance.

This is simply not true. Console gamers should not have to bear the rage of PC gamers as many of us desire the same RPG experience that PC gamers do. This is the 4th or 5th time I've felt the need to defend console gamers. Please stop all the antagonism against those who might simply not have a powerful enough system to run games like DA.

The dialogue wheel has little do to with consoles. It's a different approach to the dialogue system, that yields 0 benefits more or less for consoles compared to PC's. Many other games on the consoles use simple text options for their dialogue. Epoch might claim it's to appease console users, but that's not true, your claim that it's needed it for consoles is also untrue.

It's simply a different system. It doesn't really speed things up since you either listen to your character, to hear what he says, or read the subtitles. But what it does do, is make things less accurate. If you say it's to skip things easier, you can skip things just as easy with full text. Like I said, the only real difference is that you don't know what your character will say, and you will often have different results from what you actually want. It's actually un-RPG like, since it lessens control over your character, and should stay with Mass Effect.

That said, if the horrible dialogue wheel is indeed confirmed for Dragon Age, then I hope that there is an option to switch it off.

How would you choose what you want your Hawke to say then? If they are using the dialogue wheel, then you aren't going to have a choice. I don't think even modders would be able to give you the text responses to choose from.

The only thing i'm a little concerned about is the new art design. I've heard someone saying it's almost anime like. I'd really like to see some high res screenshots...

Sorry but you DON'T KNOW what constitutes the majority.  The people who post on messageboards are only a tiny percentage of the people who actually play these games.
