EA would never sack the talent at BioWare. Maybe their marketing dept, but definitely not the talent.

I think Bioware is gonna be ok. They rake in lots of money I would assume. They are a highly popular game developer. Idk if there where employee cuts at any Bioware offices, but I think overall Bioware is gonna be fine.

Most companies, especially big ones, tend to become much more risk averse in times of crisis. The whole industry is down right now so EA is cutting back. Hard to see how you make your way back to profitability by making less product, but that's what they will do. Some "crap" games that they thought would be cheap and modestly profitable will go. Long running money machines like Madden and Sims they will stick to stubbornly as management almost always tends to fight the last war. New IP will probably be cut as will anything that doesn't have an obvious market segment and a solid, proven development team. This can be bad for the overall creativity of the industry but probably insulates Bioware. They make games with a well known market segment and they have a stellar track record. When Bioware wants EA to greenlight another game with a new IP or something ambitious they are going to get discouraged from that and encouraged to focus on successful franchises / licenses for the time being. That's my call.

EA is just the publisher of the game and if they don't want to continue investing into the Dragon Age series I'm sure Bioware can find someone who does.

Bioware is a division of EA and has been since EA bought Bioware. It can't just do whatever it wants.

EA bought Bioware a few years ago.

Well DAO is a single player game released already with the toolsets. Considering it is in the player's power now for adding content, I wouldn't be too worried about it.

It could mean we might never see an "official" sequel, but that doesn't mean we wont have plenty of fun things to enjoy that are community made.

I would be more concerned about what this means for Mass Effect 2, whose website seems to be mysteriously broken atm.

Umm Mass Effect was a huhe hut .. EA is counting on Masss Effect 2 for stock holders, it would be a blow to EA to lose BIOWARE, and BIOWARE could pick up a new publisher anyday , simple!

I absolutely HATE EA .. I could care less if they go under, in fact I hope they do. I only support Bioware because of their past record ... which is looking a little tarnished from a tiny few things I am seeing.. now Bioware is under extra pressure to succeed because they can plainly see what will happen to them if they make even one slip up... not to mention you better prepare for rushed content to meet deadlines because not making a deadline will mean money and not making the money will mean gone. So begins the end of Bioware as we knew it.

EA has nothing to do with bioware games, yes they  provide capatial like a investor and publis. but do you thin as great as BIOWARE is the cannot find another publisher /investor. They are proven, and prolly have enought capital to bu there full company back and if not just Remane it and seperate from scumsucking EA!!. simple

This would be a good time for all the gaming companies that were bought out by EA to get together, turn around and buy EA out. That would be a nice turn of events.

The article essentially said they were going to kill off games that aren't doing well. That probably means bad things for, say, warhammer online. The article also said they were focusing on high profit margin games, which is stuff like mass effect, dragon age, etc. Essentially, they're focusing on titles they know will sell well.

Doesn't matter, if Bioware can drum up its own profitable oppurtunities without requiring EA's investment, they are free to do so. EA will not be involved in The Old Republic, for example.

Oh no. EA is flushing their turds instead of dumping them on the market as they usually do with all their crap console sports games and WoW knockoffs.

I'm so sad. Really.

My only question is...

Will EA maybe be focusing more on the games it thinks are good in order to make them better or will it be cutting even more corners to get them out asap full of bugs?

We all know EA love to encourage piracy after all.
