We play 10 year after the dao events: ok
We have a new character: ok
But if all we did in dao would not make any difference in the sequels that would be really disappointing. If we will be forced to a vanilla plot with preset and generic explanations of event in origins many fans would be deluded.
I am satisfied from ME2 continuity, so even if we must play with a new character always remeber that

Continuity: rocks!
Premade and forced storyline: average/lame

Well, to be quite frank I'd prefer they just scrapped the DA1 storyline entirely. Sure, the Blight would have existed, but they don't need to explain any more other than some Grey Wardens stopped it.

I'm surprised Mass Effect got to carry over the same character and Dragon Age gets a premade/forced character. You'd think it'd be the other way around.

Your character is a Blight survivor. Assuming that is the same Blight as in DAO, the events of DAO should form the backdrop for this game, and it should feel like this is the same world and those events matter (to the extent that is relevant, of course).

But character cameos and referencing every decision made in DAO would not be necessary. Hopefully, Bioware can implement this well.

(Assuming the Morrigan ending is canon)

Dragon Age: Origin's story was standalone, as much as people will say against it and say that the entire Morrigan ending storyline should've followed the Warden - it doesn't mean that the Warden would ever be capable of finding Morrigan, it's a large world and there's nothing that would assist the Warden in finding her.

Hell, the Warden probably doesn't have know what direction she left to.

There's going to have to be some flexibility, or they're going to have to make the events of DA:O/Awakenings very, very vague if we want perfect continuity.

On the other hand, it's not even going to be an issue unless they somehow hook up to one of our DA:O save files to see what we did. And let us choose which one to hook up to, or mine's going to be extremely confusing...
