I guess you didn't hear but Hawke will be a human. Devs confirmed it in another thread.Feller1219 wrote...
They only gave a last name, and a starting situation. The article didn't say that "Hawke" was human, or an elf. This is just the first piece of information people, you have seven months just take a breather and relax. More information will come
Game sounds like it's going to be horrible

Christ. They say a few minor vague details and your already assuming the game will suck.

Just because DA2 is going in a new a direction doesn't make it "horrible", in fact it's possible that DA3 or other games in the series will go back to having a similar style to origins, but for right now DA2 needs to be in this style to tell the story properly.

Not that I have much hope they will. So, I guess I'm officially done with them.

Sounds to me like they are trying to make the story more personal this time, one major criticism from a lot of customers was the lack of voice work for the protagonist. I hope the combat mechanics remain the same though Dragon Age had great combat and I would hate to see the BG-like combat disappear altogether.
A lot of people on these forums loved the no voicework simply because it allowed you to voice your character in your head, how he / she would sound like and what they'd say EXACTLY instead of giving small ideas of what they'll say. The complaint seemed to have stemmed from the Mass Effect crowd.
Indeed I guess dispite the fact that Ive been playing Bioware games since the original BG I must be part of the Mass Effect crowd...

BioWare needs to throw this game in the garbage bin and go back to the drawing board and reexaminde what made Dragon Age: Origins such a great game.
What made DA: O a great game? You'll get a different answer for whoever you ask.
I sure don't think it was great because of several different hour-long tutorials and some minor changes in dialogue throughout the game.
I thought it was great because of the lore and character interaction, and all the same writers are working on DA2.

One origin
Defined character
Potentially more action-orientated combat

Yeah, man, those hour quest-lines were the greatest part of that fifty-hour game.
And all of the origin stories were SO engaging!
Seriously, BioWare, what were you thinking when scratching the most massive arc of the previous game?

@Above,
"Defined character?"
When did they ever say it was going to be a defined character?

I'm hopeful about all of it except the last one, which worries me.

Enjoy playing Commander Hawke, I guess.
Race of the main character is the only thing confirmed that you have no choice in.

This. Also, just because they removed origins -- which were a few hours, and while the choices did come back later in the game, is not an entirely huge loss. I do lament my Elven Mage, but alas, I will deal with it, because I have faith in BioWare; they haven't disappointed yet, and I have enjoyed all the DLC they added to Dragon Age thus far.
Also, I do have a question. How is it that they removed it? Did you not look at the actual page that says, and I quote,
"the choices you make will define who you are, and affect the world around you for decades'''.
Tell me how that is 'removing' or 'dimushing'? I mean, the Origins were just a small part of the game. It was something extra, and cool. I'm fine with it not being there now; if the story and the interactions PLUS decisions are there, with -good- romance options, I will be happy.

Only the vocal minority b*tches about that. The same guys who call ME2 'Gears of War with dialogue" and generally hate when anything is changed.
Most guys I know, you know, the casual gamers who don't post on forums, love dialogue, be it Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, whatever.
Anyway your game that you 'loved' is just fine. Unless DA2 being different ruins DA1, in which case I really pity you and your lot in life.
