And one of the major complaints about Mass Effect is the voiced protagonist.

Only the vocal minority b*tches about that. The same guys who call ME2 'Gears of War with dialogue" and generally hate when anything is changed.

Most guys I know, you know, the casual gamers who don't post on forums, love dialogue, be it Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, whatever.

Anyway your game that you 'loved' is just fine. Unless DA2 being different ruins DA1, in which case I really pity you and your lot in life.

Only the "vocal minority ****es" complained about no voiced protaganist. I geuss that means Mass Effect gets to be Dragon Age in space now. Screw the Mass Effect fans, and people who like voiced protagonists, every game needs to be what I like.

People Know the game is going to suck.

Beacause you cant be your Pc. Instead they are turning it into a cheap Mass effect.

Ah no doubt it will have a stupid deep american voice and everything.

Honestly, I find it silly that people complain about the most intrinsic details when very little actual information aside from what was shown and what will be shown in Game Informer is released, you know? It's like everything comes crashing down when they release a small sliver of information then some people just instantly go 'it's going to be horrible' or 'it's going to suck.'

As for voiced protagonists; I like them just as fine as I like my silent protagonists, but..sadly, as I (not fondly) remember one reviewer on Suikoden IV said, 'the day of the silent protagonist is gone.'

Which makes me sad, because people cannot seem to look PAST something simple like that. I was fine whether it was voiced, like in Mass Effect, or not, like in DA:O. Either way, I imagine it will be a good game, irregardless. Probably going to pre-order it myself asap.

No they don't. They know nothing beyond a few sentences. You can still be YOUR PC, it just isn't YOUR WARDEN from the previous game in the series. Choices still matter; wherever did you get that idea? No matter what 'changes' you will still be YOUR PC.

I mean, honestly. How do you do this? How do you look at a few sentences of a game, and predict it's going to suck? You just..don't. It's like looking at a bar of 5th Avenue for the first time; will you say it sucks just because of the name, or perhaps because of a few small sentences that indicate nothing of the actual quality of the bar, or will you buy it, open it, and taste the candylicious contents awaiting you, and find that it is good, and delicious?

Perhaps not the most astute analogy I've ever made, but there you go.

It's like a movie...you're going to have to pay fifty plus bucks to see. And occasionally you might actually be arsed to press buttons on your keyboard/control pad thingie.

Thank you for your sanity.  And the analogy.  Maybe not the most astute one, but a very delicious one.  I'm now going to eat chocolate :P

I won't deny I'm disappointed with the forced race choice, but I'm still quite excited for this. I'll reserve final judgement for when we get actual screenshots/footage of the game. Here's hoping Hawke isn't voiced. I love Mass Effect (more than Dragon Age, to be perfectly honest), but what works for one game, may not work for another.

I loved playing Elves and Dwarves so I'm a bit disappointed, variety is good (but that's not something a mod won't be able to fix as there will be non human NPCs).

Now regarding the "Hawke" thing that seems to me to be a major step in the direction of Mass Effect and I can't say that it is a move that I find appealling.

Last but not least, I know it's all about the hype but this is just bad:

"Think like a general and fight like a Spartan."

That is just ridiculous...

Concerning taking away origins.

Was that truly what made DAO such a great game? Sure, it was a great feature, but it was not what made or broke it as an RPG. Nor is it a defining feature of the genre as a whole. The only game that had real origins stories to that level was DAO. It's not like forgoing origin stories is going to make it a bad RPG.

It isn't as ridiculous as it may sound. Fighting like a Spartan tends to be a *good* idea. You know why? They were some of the fiercest warriors this side of the planet; possibly even the best warriors known. The ferocity is known, and it can make for some very exciting battles. As well, thinking like a General; ever heard of Hannibal, or Scipio Africanus? Two of the smartest generals in history.

I don't know about you, but that sounds fairly appealing to me, from the get-go. Kind of like that 5th Avenue Candy bar. Dangit, now I'm hungry. > <

Am I the only one here who actually likes all the info revealed so far? Everything I've read are all things I had hoped the sequel would have.

One origin
Defined character
Potentially more action-orientated combat

2. ME2

3. ME2

looks to me like ME2 all over again... so sad!

a forced persona never feels as good as one unique to yourself regardless how good the plot is.

plus that sparta thing just sounds awful who wrote that?

Hmmm - I have to say that since starting to play Bioware games when Baldurs' Gate was released, I've only felt disappointed by them once (NWN OC - but they redeemed themselves with the expansions and through the hundreds of mods I've played because of the toolset). I know we don't know much yet, and I know they can't possibly do everything that everybody wants in this game, but I'm looking forward to it. x

I had already figured they would go the ME route with DA, but was hoping not. It does seem like I was correct unfortunately.

Hmmm. I can't lie, I'm a little disappointed that they've removed some of the freedom from making a character. I loved the origins and really feeling like the character was my own.

Like some others though...I have faith in Bioware. I'm not going to let it dampen my excitement for what is sure to be a great game.

I totally agree. The game sounds like it is highly simplified and, considering the short development cycle and emphasis on pretty graphics rather than deep role-playing systems, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Dragon Age 2 is not a role-playing game.  At best, I'm expecting "RPG-lite" along the lines of Mass Effect or Diablo.

Er ... plus, is it ok to like BOTH ME 2 and Dragon Age? Voiced PC like Shepard in DA2? Marvellous. Silent PC and more traditional gameplay like in Origins? Marvellous. Clearly I'm too easy to please ...
