Prefer no Origins?

Does anyone else prefer that they aren't doing the origins thing again? It was nice if you played through the game multiple times but I'm a one and done kind of person when it comes to long games so I would have preferred if they just had one origin and added extra development time and resources to expanding the main story further.

I also prefer that we have more of a set character like in Mass Effect and The Witcher.

I enjoyed the mutiple Origins approach, but am not committed to it. I don't mind not having Origins.

I don't mind only one origin story wise, being stuck with one race is a little disappointing though. Simply for aesthetic and replay reasons.

Well. I was expecting it to be honest, it's a shame... But I'll judge the decision after I get more information first.

I think the whole point of origins was to start the dragon age universe, and the origin of the main story. Having an like 8 different origins in every sequel would be dull and boring. I'm glad they're going this route.

It doesn't bother me hugely since pound for pound, I prefer playing as a human mage. I do find it mildly annoying, though, but it's not a deal breaker.

Just because the current name of the game doesn't include the Origins sub title doesn't mean they would just scrap them. The Origin stories were such a staple and selling point of the first game that I doubt they would just drop them on a whim.

Sucks that Bioware didn't include more information with the announcement, but thats what the Game Informer cover story is for.

I am so excited about this game!

I disagree.

Origin stories were a feature that defined the philosophy of Dragon Age: classic RPG gameplay (updated a little bit to fulfill modern conventions, such as voice acting) with a myriad of options, allowing you to make your character and game world your own.

I loved Mass Effect and especially The Witcher, but I've put far more time into DA:O than either of them for good reason. I've played DA:O for 200+ hours and I'm STILL finding new content that I missed the other times I played it. However, this is not what DRAGON AGE is. It's something else.

They're going against the principles that Dragon age was founded on which is what upsets me most. I want more of what Dragon Age offers: not a completely different experience that goes against many of the reasons why I enjoyed DA:O. I enjoyed the Origin stories immensely because of the role playing options it opened up, allowing me to make characters like a disgruntled city elf who wants revenge on humans for the crimes committed in the Alienage or a disgraced dwarven noble who wishes to win back the respect and honour he once had and get revenge on his brother. (which actually changes a lot on how you view the Orzammar political situation) Or I could play the spoiled human noble with no respect for authority and just wants to have a good time.

Dragon Age gave me the options to not only create these characters but to play them through the entire game. There was plenty of dialogue options to represent almost every character consistently through the entire game and it was rare for me to have to compromise the ideals and principles of the character I had made solely because there was no other options to choose from.  While conversely, in mass  effect while the idea of an option may have jived with my character: the way Shepard handled the situation often wasn't.  Eg while killing the rachni made sense for my character's motives, Shepard had way too much "THEY DONT DESERVE TO LIVE" going on to actually fit my idea of the character I had made. (Who was more of a pragmatist than a sociopath, which in ME2 there's not much separating those two ideas due to the simple dialogue system)

Dragon Age 2 looks to be nothing more than a Mass Effect derivative with a dragon age skin, and I am thoroughly disappointed with everything I have seen so far. Maybe it will grow on me as they reveal more specifics about the game, but the initial bulletpoint list has thoroughly killed any interest I had in playing a sequel to one of my favourite RPG's of all time.

Having a set character also makes establishing canon easier.

I trust Bioware and the Dragon Age team; I'm sure there's a good reason why there's only one origin. While I enjoyed the multiple stories I found that I really only enjoyed playing as one or two of the backgrounds. My only hope for the game is that they don't turn it into a Dark Fantasy version of Mass Effect.

While I thought the origins were quite cool, I found it akward how halfway across the game they suddenly stopped mattering. I don't really mind not having them.

I wouldn't toss Dragon Age 2 under the bus yet.  We haven't seen anything.  Everything is speculation at this point. Keep your hopes up. With Dragon Age Origins being so great it would be hard to see them completely failing with the sequel.  I think Bioware deserves some trust from us.

The origins serve as the tool for us to learn the world and races painlessly. If they think we don't need that in DA2, I'm good. I do hope the resource saved by removing origins are all put into the main game to make it longer though.

See this was what I thought upon completion of the first game. If they hadn't done the origins how much more main game content would there have been?

And nothing was ever mentioned ever about origins in DA2. What was mentioned was a 10-year-long story arc, so I'm guessing there's chapters. Who's to say that the first chapter couldn't be different based on a choice in char creation?

Well there won't be origins AND the game will be shorter. Lack of development time.

I feel like I've been introduced to the Origin races already, would seem a little redundant to do another round of stories in the same manner. That said, I wouldn't have minded the option to have multiple races for DA2.

This topic is about to be locked down, but before it does, what qualifies a necro as pointless and one that's not? Thank you in advance, and I'm sorry for replying to a necro.
