what worries me is that even with the little bit of information we have about DA2, the reason that they gave as to why no M/M in ME would already apply.

Precisely.
Given the endless debate on the ME2 forum, the press discussion (some negetive, some just pointing out that it seemed odd) surrounding the complete exclusion from ME2 when some elements had existed in ME1, etc. it just seems like it might be beneficial for bioware to tease a bit on this one.
No details, no character profiles, just a simple "There will be romance options and they'll be as diverse as before" or "No romance options this time around" would work to curb the paranoia some of us are feeling.

I'm fine either way. No romance might be a deal breaker for some but i'm fine with that. Plenty of games have no romance at all. Just as long as they don't go and scrap all of the s/s options and add five new het options I'm good.

If you do not think same sex was marginalized then what was the point of what you just said about Bioware justifying having it be marginal.  Also they do get data from their games.

You should address this question to Gaider. He's said several times how we're just a tiny tiny part of the market, BUT they're going to (generously?) add it if they feel inspired to do so (perhaps we should be just eternally grateful to them as they think of us even if we're just a tiny, insignificant portion of the market (ORLY?) - oh thank you Bioware and Gaider so much for your kind heart!).

As for the data. I don't know. It depends on the quality of the analysis. Seeing as a C.P. (he works for marketing I guess) thought that JE's "failure" was linked to a female being on the cover - I wouldn't be so sure about the quality part.

So... I was chatting up with Zevran and being nice to him, then he started to talk about massaging.  At first I thought he was joking, and there was no options to ask him if he's making a euphamism, so I played along then...  When he offered to join me in my tent,  I was so taumatized that I could not listen to him talk for the rest of the game.  lmao.

I don't know about you, but DA voice acting and writing are so well done and believable that when he hit on me, it felt like a guy really did fricking hit on me.  None of my gay friends ever did that since I bet they know if they did, it would be awkward forever. :P

They need to be a bit more up front about asking me if I want to get hit on by a gay guy before they unleash it on me. lol.

Or even an "If there are romance options there will be s/s options" that way you don't even have to confirm romance options will exist! You can still be cryptic and evil and torture us!

They will *never* confirm them. Maybe like 5 days prior to release.

Zevran's come-ons are about as subtle as a freight train.

Gay men can look (and be) badass and still be gay. There are plenty enough gay men in uniform (military, fire, police, etc) to prove this.

Indeed. People should get rid of those stupid stereotypes asap. Characters like Zevran don't help in this regard.

Um, I have to say that none of the characters are particularly subtle in their "I would like to jump your bones" speeches, and if Zevran's caught you out I'd recommend paying slightly closer attention to conversations in the future. It could save you a rather awkward moment in the real world, too. ;)

Totally supporting more same-sex romances! I'd really rather not get fobbed off with "but Shepard Hawke is straight!" again if possible. Especially if the f/f option is adorable as Leliana.

Not to open a can of rabid worms, but can any of the developers give a "Yeah" or "Nay"?  It's probably a bit of a deal-maker/breaker for some of us, especially after Mass Effect 2!

So, you won't buy Dragon age 2 if you can't be gay in it?

F/F romance is a real deal breaker ... just so Bioware knows ... we tasted it and you let the hot dragon of F/F romance out of the cage ... so now we demand it in every Bioware game! and dont you dare to forgot implementing it in SWTOR :]

Well I liked Zevran fine and did not think a deep voiced latin assassin really fit the stereotype BUT at least we can agree Leliana was not a Lesbian stereotype (yes yes I know neither Zev or Lel were techically gay)

Possibly. More possibly if the "predifined character" crap reasoning surfaces in marketing
again.

Don't get me wrong, I am *thrilled* for DA2, but if it regresses in the same way ME2 did, that will definitely weaken my resolve to buy it.

Yeah, that really angered me. I am not too excited about the marketing campaign, tbh. I'm willing and hoping to be wrong, though.

While I agree that gay guys can be badasses let's not suffer the same fate as the ME2 gayshep threads by getting all off-topic. We should stick to DA2 relatedness.

hoysexyjew wrote...

Some people won't no. I have to admit I probably won't buy it if they take only the gay-male options out. I certainly won't buy the Collectors edition. I might buy the SE if it still looks mind blowing. I might rent it if they take the options out.
I simply don't know for certain yet.

But again, that's an oversimplification of the situation. It's not just about "oh there's no gay dudes so forget it" it would be because BioWare said very specific things to those of us who were fighting for gay options in ME2.  We were told that DA would stay open. We were told it was because they were two different styles. Dr. Ray specifically said "other games will continue to have those options".
If they take those out of DA2 and give us the same lines about different narrative styles then yeah, some of us will wash our hands of BioWare as a company.

edit: way too many fors.

edit2: I certainly won't make the same mistake I did with ME2 where I bought 2 copies (CE and SE) of the game just to get all the pre-order DLC i could get my grubby loot hording hands on.

Considering all the stuff they did(get it?) in DA:O there might be a pretty good chance it is in unless they suddently changed their minds.

In da one they had:

Straight sex, gay sex, group sex, prostitution, pirate sex, s&m, bestiality and shemales.

I think i covered everything.

My point is that even five steps backward in sexual options would probably still leave us with homosexual options.

uuuhm... bestiality and shemales? When? What? Who?
I also don't recall any s&m except some of Zev's idle conversation topics.

I'm sure the love interests will be as diverse in Dragon Age 2 as they were the first game, if not more so.

I don't condone Homosexuality(don't hurt me!!!) but if games can have straight romances why not have gay romances??? I would just take more if statements and loops in the big mess of programming that will be Dragon Age 2. If anything they won't have them because the devs will get lazy and refuse to do it.

All I ask is if I play a male character, I want to romance a female. If I play a female character, I want to romance a female. That's not too much to ask right? :P

The "Female" prostitutes and nugs.
