No you can't.

In all seriousness, it's a welcome departure from the "omg imma save the world" trope in seemingly most RPGs. Granted, I still believe we'll be saving the world from something in DA2.

Rise to power make a name for yourself and like Origins have it completely irrelevant when DA3 comes out.

I hope we're not shoehorned into saving the world again. Making tons of money and getting a seat of power are the aims I'd try to accomplish in my character's shoes. Not saving tons of people I don't give a crap about.

Your origin story became irrelevant the moment you stepped into Ostagar.

I'm thinking Hawke becomes a legend on par with Calenhad, or possibly even Andraste.

Yes god forbid multiple games from the same IP should have their own self contained story.

No, David Gaider is not proclaiming that they invented fantasy. So it is not Lionhead.

I think you people are judging these games too harshly.. Im not one for being dissapointed when certain things dont go my why with video games, unless of course a dragon ball z fighting game is released with the same characters, same story, and no character creation. I would love to this through for a game franchise that has fallen far from the "rise to power". Believe it or not, I enjoyed every single Bioware game and non of them have been fails. I expect nothing but greatness in their decisions and to even doubt Bioware is ridiculous.. whatever the storyline, I follow. I pick the experience up and delve straight into it. Really, stop complaining..

Realistically, if Ferelden is representative of a given medieval European country, I'd be more like modern day Astana, Kazakstan.

European countries were noticeably backwards and underdeveloped compared to other parts of the world during the good ol' medieval period. Minrathos in Tevinter (taking it to be the equivalent of Constantinople/Rome) is probably closer to NYC, if there aren't any more advanced locales like you would have found in China or the Middle East.

Actually you can't "make a name for yourself" because it's Hawke! Doh! Oh the shackles of voicing all the characters, pharaoh, pharaoh let my PC go!!!

Yeah except for all the NPC's you meet that reference it and most all of the dialogues in the game that reference your gender and origin.  Tangible game effects were perhaps minimal, but there's no denying they had an effect on the players immersion into the game world and helped made what is a fairly static game feel a little bit more dynamic. (The heralds at Orzammar didn't really effect gameplay much, but having them refer to your exploits as you walk around Orzammar was pretty awesome)

Oh and ofc there's the role playing POV which I won't go into again.

Yeah that line makes me uncomfortable too, but it's just marketing. I trust BioWare will allow us to do whatever we're supposed to be doing in this game in a noble way (or in other ways, as it pleases us).

We're still probably going to save the world or something but hopefully the narrative is done in such a way where it's not all laid out before us just how we go about doing it. That's just one reason I'm looking forward to the story taking place over a decade.

I personally have never known Bioware to make anything irrelevant if they have sequels planned (other than DLC of course, but DLC is not supposed to affect the actual campaign, just add to it). When DA3 does come out then I am sure DA2 and Origins will most definitely have relevance. I for one am exceptionally excited for DA2 because I know that Bioware will rock it as they always do and that DA2 will only add to the world that is Dragon Age. Image IPB

The times NPCs actually struck up dialogue about your origin in DA:O was significantly better than the times it was brought up in Mass Effect 1 or 2 though.  In ME 1 all we got was the intro and in ME 2 all we got was the shuttle ride dialogue where Jacob asked Shepard questions about his/her past. I do admit I wished I felt more of the "racism" that my elven characters were supposed to experience. The writers did to a pretty good job for elven PCs but there wasn't much animosity felt outside the city elf origin.
