In all seriousness, it's a welcome departure from the "omg imma save the world" trope in seemingly most RPGs. Granted, I still believe we'll be saving the world from something in DA2.

No.
It's Fable 3.

Your origin story became irrelevant the moment you stepped into Ostagar.Relshar wrote...

Yes god forbid multiple games from the same IP should have their own self contained story.Relshar wrote...

Modern day Thedas. Denerim is the DA equivalent of NYC.

No, David Gaider is not proclaiming that they invented fantasy. So it is not Lionhead.

Realistically, if Ferelden is representative of a given medieval European country, I'd be more like modern day Astana, Kazakstan.
European countries were noticeably backwards and underdeveloped compared to other parts of the world during the good ol' medieval period. Minrathos in Tevinter (taking it to be the equivalent of Constantinople/Rome) is probably closer to NYC, if there aren't any more advanced locales like you would have found in China or the Middle East.

Yeah except for all the NPC's you meet that reference it and most all of the dialogues in the game that reference your gender and origin. Tangible game effects were perhaps minimal, but there's no denying they had an effect on the players immersion into the game world and helped made what is a fairly static game feel a little bit more dynamic. (The heralds at Orzammar didn't really effect gameplay much, but having them refer to your exploits as you walk around Orzammar was pretty awesome)
Oh and ofc there's the role playing POV which I won't go into again.

I personally have never known Bioware to make anything irrelevant if they have sequels planned (other than DLC of course, but DLC is not supposed to affect the actual campaign, just add to it). When DA3 does come out then I am sure DA2 and Origins will most definitely have relevance. I for one am exceptionally excited for DA2 because I know that Bioware will rock it as they always do and that DA2 will only add to the world that is Dragon Age.Relshar wrote...

The times NPCs actually struck up dialogue about your origin in DA:O was significantly better than the times it was brought up in Mass Effect 1 or 2 though. In ME 1 all we got was the intro and in ME 2 all we got was the shuttle ride dialogue where Jacob asked Shepard questions about his/her past. I do admit I wished I felt more of the "racism" that my elven characters were supposed to experience. The writers did to a pretty good job for elven PCs but there wasn't much animosity felt outside the city elf origin.
