No need to get personal just because someone dislikes something you don`t dislike.

lolwut? I admit that was a rather bad picture, but Guts is pretty much the conan of anime, the guy is a manly beast.

It's less brown than DA:O was?

Honestly, that's all I got. Less brown. Erm...based on the magazine cover released and the mage, more claws? Semi-bestial claws? *shrugs*

Concept Art-style is not a problem.

...

Ok fair point. I'll wait for screenies before judging, I think.

Better get used to it.

Nearly every young adult pursuing a career in the arts has been breastfed with animé since an early age.

I don't like it any more than you do, but these are the people who are going to be in charge of the art design in a couple of years.

This is just the vanguard.

The art is fine to me, it doesn't look all that different than the concept art for DA:O. And I'm sure it will change a little. I just took a closer look at that concept of Zevran again, since it was linked again. Whoever designed that dagger has no understanding of weapons. L0lz, l33t f4nt4sy kn1v3a dud3! There's a sliding scale of plausibility of weapon function that ends in a lack of functionality and "impressive" appearance. Bioware needs better weapon design research. They did a better job with armor in DA:O.

the concept art linked by the opp looks similar in style to that from mass effect 2 concept art book. Using the same artist's maybe?

Ehem. I beg to differ

I do hope the game still has a realistic look, inspired by the art style and not driven by it.

The concept art so far doesn't look at all anime-based, anyway. If anything it looks like Disney.

Anime will ruin this, belive me. There is nothing lamer. Pokemon with swords.

In terms of imaginative fantasy Hayao Miyazaki pisses on Dragon Age from a great height.

Dragon Age's art style was not a strong point. They should change it up. BUt if it looks like Fable

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

It should maintain a realistic style, but... better

I think the pieces of art we have so far are sweet and I think white-haired lady has a pretty sweet character design as well, but it does miss those soft details of DA:O concept art. This is more like a graphic novel art style perhaps...
Looking forward to game screenshots at any rate.

Zev did not have feathers in origins, why not? There are stealth benefits I'm sure.

edit; oi I lied! what graphic novels have I been reading?!

A less realistic style is fine. The cell shading vastly improved Borderlands. It made it look interesting... as opposed to the generic brown and grey rubbish it was previously. Stylised graphics can really last a lot longer than the brown and grey rubbish that seems standard nowadays, and generally look nicer. But of course, it kills IMMURSHUN, because people can't deal with a bit of colour.

So yeah, I'm hoping for a nice new art style. But for the love of god, dont make it based around Anime. Cell shading? Fine. Androgynous douchebags with stupid hair and massive eyes? No.

I'm just scared because whilst of course the graphics were dated, I thought the art style was perfect. I'd rather have heard that the former has improved than that the latter has changed.

Hold me.

The concept art is gorgeous, though. But so is TOR's....

First of all, Dragon Age is stylized.

Secondly, I struggle to think of any game that fits that 'brown and grey rubbish' description that isn't supposed to depict an barren postapocalyptic wasteland—which, whilst slightly more common than they were ten years ago, are hardly 'standard.'

Dragon Age certainly doesn't fit the description.

Man why revive this old skeleton of a thread? Better create a new one if you want to opine about the art or anything.

The skeletor-like darkspawn sucked, and the ogres look much worse than they did in DAO.

the art style is basically inspired by Orzammar in DAO which was the most interesting looking area of the first game

Ive seen animes, how is DA2's design anime like? i could see maybe comicbookish though.

as for dragon age origins artstyle. lets put it this way, the static backgrounds had style, the characters had no style which could be fault of the game engine not the art style.

when i saw a room, or a set piece, i got a sense of style, but when i saw any characters, it sorta left. look its an elf! or..maybe just a slightly shorter human with vaguely pointy ears. big ass qunari, well, slightly larger sickly colored guy.

the style for the characters just feel so generalized and boring.

DA2 tried too hard to make race looks different than the usual ones yet ended up looking like they didn't even try to make them look good. Elves are still smaller than humans, Dwarves are still always with their gaint beard. The only difference to before is that now it looks terrible.

Terrible, noticeable, insanely better... Same thing. Dwarves should be wider.
