One thing that has me worried: will there be dialogue trees in Rise to Power just like those found in Origins? Or is BioWare moving towards a Mass Effect-like dialogue options?

I know it's extremely early for speculation and all that stuff, but after hearing the announcement that we will be playing as either a male or female Hawke, with a background as a hero and his rise to power and all that jazz, I cannot help but draw comparisons to Commander Shepard from the Mass Effect series.

With that, one of the first things that comes to mind is that they will probably scrap the dialogue trees in favor of a ME-like system of dialogue where Hawke is fully voiced and you only get to choose basic dialogue commands and watch Hawke/Shepard talk.

Now, don't get me wrong here: I love the ME series, but there is a reason I have nearly 500 played hours in Dragon Age and only about 100 played hours combined for ME1 and ME2, and that reason is that I like playing my own characters, not someone else. I absolutely loved the rich and varied dialogue options in DA:O, and was even more surprised to find out that they bothered to write genuine NPC responses for even the snarkiest of comments. So after reading today's announcement, I'm a little bit worried they might do away with the dialogue trees completely and just go for a ME system.

Plus, I like to imagine what my own character sounds like when talking. This is what, IMHO, makes multiple playthroughs of the game more satisfying because you can pretend like you are playing as someone else with an entirely different personality. This is also why I had so much trouble replaying ME2, because I already played as Commander Shepard.

If they do go with a voiced hero, PLEASE label the dialog choices better Bioware.

I'm guessing that there will be full VO, but who knows?

Hybrid system, most likely.

Taken from the other two VO threads:

[DA:O sidequest spoilers]

I'd  prefer no voice work for Dragon Age 2 at all, voicework only limits the  player's choices and style instead of making it interesting. Mass Effect has the story of Commander Shepard, he's this one single person who no matter what is a military (wo)man with a past and forced to be sent on an adventure, Dragon Age: Origins on the other hand was more of a general scope.

I've only played Human Nobles in Dragon Age, yet I felt like I played four different characters. Why? Because there isn't voice acting, who the character and what he did was entirely up to me. I made one of my human nobles a spoiled brat who's never worked a day in his life, while the other was a kind noble who assisted in everybody's
matters and was.. let's say, charming.

My character wasn't  defined by the voicework, I wasn't forced to pick three choices and choose the one I liked the most, I picked the one that my character actually was. My prefered playthrough is one where I go around and tease my party members and respond sarcastically whenever possible, he's just that type of person. I felt more a bond with these characters than any of the Mass Effect characters, I genuinly cared for Alistair and Leliana's troubles and when I said to Alistair (after the Goldanna quest) that I was sorry it turned out that way - it wasn't because my character was sad, I honestly felt horrible and wished it could've went better.

While voice acting would entertain the 'mass effect crowd', I'd loathe it.

I asked something similar earlier but it was buried :)

I dont really care if the character is fully voiced, as we don't set the origin of this one I'm assuming he/she will be.

The question is

Traditional dialogue tree

Mass effect wheel of choice (really a dialogue tree with vague allusions to what will be said rather than spelled out)

Awakening, not very interactive semi monologue's (imho)

Or a hybrid of all three?
