Long ago, mages of Circe were killed, like it happened in DAO due to Uldred's blood magic. But back then mages were enslaved and absorbed by their own beards. Only one mage survived confrontation and it cost him his sanity. Poor mad hermit from Brecilian Forest. Beards were searching for him to have their revenge...
Remember Oghren taunting Anders about not being manly and wearing a skirt? See, mages tried to become manly back then, to compensate robes by beards. But beards became too strong.
They basically rule Ferelden now. Everywhere.. Duncan. Eamon. Controlled.
Now you see why Loghain was an enemy? Why they needed him gone?
Beards are behind the mage's collective. They watched our Wardens, and now the one from Lothering, the one which escaped to save itself in case if Wardens fail against Loghain, is back. Hawke...
