I am deeply dissapointed in the direction BioWare seem to be turning with DA2. The ME games are very good, especially ME1. But they aren't really RPG's, they are third person shooter games with rpg elements (especially ME2). And what made Dragon Age so damn good, was that it was the first heavy rpg game we rpg fans have seen in a long time.
As I understand we will only be able to play one character named Hawke. I really dislike that, for several reasons. You feel less connected to some Shepard type character, than to a character you have created from the bottom. Having a voice and a chat wheel just makes it worse. I don't need voiceacting for my char in DA:O because its my character or "me" so I know in my head how he/she is saying it. And the chat wheel function was seriously flawed in ME, I cant count how many times Shepard said something completely different from what I imagined when I chose an option, or that he flipped it in a way I did not want him to do. I want to see exactly what I am going to say... I really fear the that the chat wheel function will drop the dialog-rpg down to the level of ME, which means that your dialog will have miniscule effects on the outcome. The problem with Shepard was that he had a personality, and I couldnt change it, I could just decide if he wanted to act witty or tough. In DA:O and Baldurs Gate it felt like I could decide my characters personality and I could "connect" with my character, "Yeah I got a level-up"... instead of "That bland/boring space commander guy got a level-up".
Hearing that the combat system has been revised is also a thing I am really concerned about. We already have too many action heavy "rpg's" or games that disguise themselves as rpg's, so I really hope BioWare doesnt fall in that trap. The animations in DA:O combat were beatiful, so if they just did something to them, so that the combated looked like it flowed even better, would be a good thing. Sadly I think that they want to appease the console crowd by turning the combat into something that focuses on pressing lots of buttons and doing cool moves.
I don't know, I just love the old school rpg's like BG, BG2, Fallout, Fallout2, Torment and such, and that was the main reason I loved DA:O, it actually followed in BG's footsteps and it was damn good.
