^This.

DAO started one way, DA2 is pulling it another. I liked DAO. The announced changes for DA2, I don't like.

For the people saying that voicing doesn't mean lack of choices - it does. For a very simple reason. VA work costs. VA work takes up a lot of space, add in player dialogue for every choice you make, and for every branching path, and you have a whole lot of VA work, costing money and space in the final product.

Choices will be limited folks, likely to Good/Evil/Mercenary**** with some variation therein

I hope we get the same (or more) content as we did with part 1.

Same here. I am actually concerned that all the voiceover work required for the protagonist will result in a shorter adventure and lack of origins and race options will limit replayability.

Just have a bad feeling it will be a single play 10-15hr adventure game. I truly hope I am wrong though.

Linear gameplay. Seriously. Easily changed, look back to DAO. I know Bioware is now hanging off of EA's privates, but have some respect for the genre.

I just read and examined the article written in Game Informer Magazine about Dragon Age 2. I must say if the screen shots they are showing for the game are a true reflection of the PC version I'm really really disappointed. The graphics suck. They look worse than what I am playing right now in Dragon Age: Origins.

I don't like the idea of ME style Dragon Age, personally I would like to be able to be able to import one of characters that I spent a great many hours developing and be able to pickup where I left off. I don't like that you can't be a different race. Thats one thing that has ALWAYS been of great importance in a Fantasy Role Playing game is to be able to be something else not just someone else.

I've already preordered the game so I'll be playing whatever they finally end up with, but I'm afraid if it's anything like the ME engine, we won't be seeing a toolset editor, or too many mods being developed with using some application that has to run additionally in background memory to utilize.

I don't want to use a 3D shooter Engine for combat. Who wants to have to control their character in combat with their mouse to target and swing at their enemies. Personally my character is supposed to be able to target and beat his opponents alot easier than me. Using your mouse to place crosshairs over a target to fire a gun is fine for a shooter game but hack and slash? I want to see my character decapitate someone without having to pull some kind of left, left, right, down, leftmouse button combination.

Again if anyone else has seen the provided screen shots of DA2 in Game Informer magazine, Whats your opinions of what you saw. I think it's a major step backwards in both the elegance of the worlds graphics and now limiting the options of the player as well.

Just my opinion but it seems all they are doing is modifying the ME engine to suit this New DragonAge continuation. Since console players didn't like the graphics and playability of the game they seem to be tailoring this to them and saying screw the PC gamers. I see a need for both platforms still, let's not let them force us into buying X-Boxes just to have our gaming entertainment.

Lol, what a great image, or a terrible one. I dunno. hmmm.

Honestly I don't give a f*** what bioware does or how much they change up gameplay/visuals from DA:O as long as...

1. There is a dwarf companion... preferibly multiple ones.

2. Combat is pretty fun

And most importantly

3. A DEEP AND AWESOME STORY WITH TWISTS AND TURNS AND MULTIPLE ENDINGS

Number 3 is the reason I play bioware games. It is their strength and it is something (not including DLC) they have never let me down on.

Is this supposed to be the "Concerns of DA2" sticky? A mod locked another thread and said to move there but I can't seem to find it, hope I'm not bugged or something. I'm just gonna repost my comment from that thread seeing as it's pretty long and I'd like a reply.

Hey David, first lemme say thanks for answering so many questions. If I may,

I really enjoyed Mass Effect, but I definitely thought it had problems. In ME2 the team fixed most, if not all, of those problems, but ended up going, in my opinion, too far. ME2 was definitely a Shooter RPG as opposed to an RPG Shooter (ME), and I was definitely disappointed in that. Another problem was that the story and variety was a lot weaker in ME2, I mean the large majority of the enemies were just mercs, not collectors or geth.

What I'm getting at is that I'm really worried about taking DA2 into a more action focused direction. I for one loved the combat and party system in DAO, it was such a nice change of pace from every other RPG. Pausing and strategizing, lining up abilities, taking control of various party members to set them up, that was all important to winning a fight.

The change in direction was definitely noticable in Awakening. The inability to get into conversations with your companions at anytime really broke the immersion. I don't care if they have nothing new to say, a big part of DAO for me was going back to camp after every mission and checking each party member to see if anything new came up with them. Giving them the newly found gear and flipping through one by one.till I had everyone at their best and then selling the unequipped/used gear.

While a lot of that was present in Awakening, some of it wasn't. Then you guys announce DA2 and from the info we've gotten it seems you've furthered that position. So here's my question:

Have you indeed furthered the the action-y direction you took in awakening, speeding up the various aspects of gameplay, and if you have can you give us a general estimate on how much? Maybe use this graph?

<---|DA|------|Awakening|------------------------------------------|ME|-------------------|ME2|--->

I'll be straightforward when I say ideally you would hit in between DAO and Awakening, but it seems you've hit slightly less than halfway between Awakening and ME.

PS: I hope you're working on a book for DA2, The Stolen Throne was still the best game based books, and one of the best books overall, I've read. The climax between Maric and Katriel I swear made my heart skip a beat.

In regards to your accusations, I completely assure you that I am nothing but a fan and player of Dragon Age. I have no inside information, I have no motives other than try to flag down BioWare's attention with a thread summarizing mass concerns in a more concrete, solid, and organized fashion.

This is something other than threads titled something like "discuss the name of the character" sitting next to threads titled "What gameplay elements should stay and which should go?" and so on. I just want this to be one place where people can voice ALL of their concerns in one place and nobody is left looking from thread to thread to either read or explain their concerns on different topics.

And really, I'm just trying to explain things with the information I have. It doesn't necessarily mean that I like it, but I'd rather people understand something before they rant about it. For example, the fact that Hawke is from Lothering, something that not everyone may know right now, makes it difficult to be able to select your race. That is the current story and I'd like people to understand it as such.

Gosh, it looks like DAO will be the very last RPG game I ever play--especially if Bioware drastically changes things in DA2. Well, just think of the money I will save. I say, go fot it Bioware, because I will save a few bucks by not buying it. Thanks. I hope you lose your shorts on your new DA2.

Posted ImagePosted ImageHaving joined these forums back before this site opened (on the DA:O site) approximately half to three-quarters of the way through DA:O's development, I'm not familiar with people's reaction back then.

David, did people react like they're reacting now to DA:O and then calm down? I'm just curious.

What I see here, David and I have been one of them, is the fact that the Warden is not your main, that is the main problem alot of people have had and I know you or anyone said he was to be but we all had faith he or she would be and from that on down it's alot of us just so worried about where you are taking this story. I will be one that will say, I don't want to see Morrigans story told to Hawke and my Warden was just a bum, dead in some codex........thats just horried but you guys have a story in place..

Oh, dId I stike a nerve Mr. Gaider? Because this kind of reaction confirms my belief that Bioware really doesn't care about thier customers.

Posted ImagePosted ImageObviously I can't speak for Mr. Gaider, but I don't think its that he doesn't care about Bioware's customers.  How many times can he repeat, "It might be a good idea to wait and see what we're doing with this game until you judge and afterwards form your opinions."?  If he didn't care, why would he bother coming on this forum and interracting with the fans, even though a large number of people are freaking out and condemming Bioware as sell-outs?  He, and Bioware (in my opinion), do a heck of a lot more listening and talking to fans than any other company that I've seen so far.

Mr. Gaider, I want to make it clear that I don't think many people are doubting your story telling ability. Dragon Age: Origins was amazing, as are the books (I'm about half way through "The Calling" right now, love it!). Most of it seems to be the implementation of it. Of course we don't know much about the story, but history tells us it should be good.

If you catch this, do you think you could tell us how you ORIGINALLY imagined this new game, and what you truly, honestly think about some of the gameplay changes in Dragon Age 2? I'm curious. And if this comes off as snarky, I honestly don't mean it to be that way.

Thanks!

I'm going to have to agree with that... Just the fact that employees would even click on a thread titled "Concerns with Dragon Age 2" says a lot to me. But it would be a whole other level of meaning if they were actually reading this stuff, which I don't know if they actually are or not.

I wouldn't say it is a large number of people. From what I've seen, there's about 10-15 people on these forums who lurk around threads and post lots of negative comments. That leaves some million odd players who it doesn't bother quite as much.

Also, the fact that the lead writer of a game takes the time to come onto public forums where he knows he is going to have to deal with that negativity kind of proves that he at least does care what customers have to say. Whether or not sarcasm is the best response is debatable of course.
