OK, you must know it all, well on mine said my story was not yet told and had many more to tell, so we can set here and **** back and forth, you got your new game so go be happy.

They already said there is going to be more DA:O DLC, so that will likely wrap up the "story"

A new game is a fresh start to me. What's the fun in beginning a game with a character you have little to build on? Going to level 50 with more power or more skills isn't a challenge if you ask me. And isn't RPG being about to build your character from the ground up?

And i don't get the topic starter about DLC. If you've had enough Dragon Age after the game, don't buy the DLC. If you look for more Dragon Age, buy it. Not so difficult if you ask me. You don't have to buy it because it adds nothing crucial to the game if you ask me...

Tolkien didn't even write LOTR as a trilogy, he wrote it as a single epic story that was split up into three books by his publisher.

I'm sorry, but I've got to be pedantic. LotR is 6 books in 3 volumes, and those three volumes form the novel. If you don't believe me, and you have the set in three volumes, check. I'm sure even the full novel is divided into six books.

As for the DLC = Useless argument, basically, look at it like this. You should never buy a game expecting to carry things over to the sequel. The Divinity series doesn't allow it, Sacred doesn't, Fallout doesn't, Drakensang doesn't, King's Bounty (the Russian games) doesn't and so forth. What you should always do is treat each game as a self contained release, including the DLC. If you enjoy DAO and its DLC, how is that useless? Its purpose is to entertain you, and if you enjoy it then it's done its job. Transferring information (or characters) over is just a benefit, and one you should never expect.

Mass Effect, as someone mentioned above, is one of the few which allows it.

Yea thats just the point, few do and it's sad for ones that like that and you like your new story each time, to each their own, but don't come in here and put down people that like what they like. Good for you that you will have a new story and hero, makes you feel so damn good inside, my new story.....weeeeeeeeeeee.

I will be, trust me. I felt really happy when i saw the DA2 announcement this morning...

But how can you watch a movie or play any game if you feel like this? Are you angry at Tolkien for not telling the story of Frodo after he stepped on the Boat? Did he fight the Kraken? Did his boat sink? Did he meet his hottie on an exotic island and have 8 children tot start his own Kelly family? You don't now....

If you ask me, a story is never finished....

It doesn't say that if you character dies.  And Awakening did tell more of your surviving Warden's story, so you got what you were promised as far as I can tell.  Note that the end of Awakening didn't make any more promises, which was a big point of discussion on these boards back when it came out.

How does the absence of character import make DLC 'useless'?

I buy DLC (including the expansions) to play it, not to import the shiny equipment into a completely different game. I'd have preferred a more definite resolution than what we got in Awakening, but I didn't buy it assuming I'd be carrying my character into DA2. (And nobody has ruled out a post-Awakening DLC to tie up the loose ends, anyway.)

Im sure Tolkien could have written his famous trilogy with different characters in each book. Perhaps they would have been good to. But with DA:O I feel like I was the main character, and I just got replaced in the sequel by some guy named Hawke.Bummer.

That's a horrible analogy.  Tolkien didn't even write LOTR as a trilogy, he wrote it as a single epic story that was split up into three books by his publisher.  Dragon Age Origins was meant as a single epic story.

Asking for your character to continue in each successive DA title is like wishing Tolkien had written a post-LOTR story with some or all of the same characters in it adventuring further.  As if there was anything Frodo, Sam, and Aragorn could have done later that would have been interesting after they saved the world the first time.  I don't think anyone would have wanted that for LOTR and I don't see why anyone would want that for Dragon Age.

Good point, but not completly true, since DA:O is not a single epic story. To many loose ends. Morrigans (and my!) child? Allistair, who ran off? etc For me, it´s more like a book is missing.

But my main point was:

The Warden was me. I. And I just got replaced by some guy named Hawke.

But as long as I can customize my character, replace the name "hawke" with something less cheesy I´ll be happy. Oh, and of course I must point out that if Morrigan doesn´t appear in DA 2, Bioware will have a riot on their hands when angry fans go out on a crusade!

@Sarkus
the tollkien point is completely wrong youve heard of the hobbit right he only wrote lord of the rings because people wanted more of bilbo and the hobbits otherwise he would have done the silmarillon so realy saying people shouldnt want the same character because of this is silly seeing as that was partly the reason for Lotr in the first place

@Stolkholmsfreak

well put it does feel abit like our char is just being replaced by someone elses

The Hobbit is entirely about Bilbo and the dwarves he travels with.  Bilbo is in every scene.  Gandalf plays a role, of course, but is also absent for significant periods.  LOTR is entirely about the fellowship, as one of them is in every scene with the exception of Gandalf, who again is absent from the story for signficant periods. If Bilbo had been the main character in LOTR you might have a point, but as it stands, I think you simply reinforced my position.

i agree, there are too many lose ends for my warden
and so far the only justification i got is that the story of the warden ended in Awakening or if you chose the ultimate sacrifice but my warden didn't sacrifice himself and not everyone did get awakening or didn't go trough it with every warden
then why give you the option to go search fo Morrigan if in the end you can't go and find her??
but hell. i probably end up buying DA2 anyways , no i'm  not put off by having a new story or a new character they could have come up with a better name than Hawke
i only had hoped for a more glorious ending for my warden and clean up the lose ends

I'll give you 100% we are still going to release more DLC for Dragon Age: Origins before we release Dragon Age 2. And I have said as much repeatedly now. :)

Isn't that actiually not a point to prove that continuation of stories with same characters are more impressive and successfull than otherwise?

Same here, I want more DAO DLC for my Warden and I will be happy, you can keep DA2 as is about a new guy, I say this if you didn't want use that liked our grey warden, then you should have made this Hawke dude, since he is the love child for both 2 and 3.

Here is some funny news or rumors that I have heard down the pike, one is that this Hawke you play in DA2 is to rise to power, good or bad and seeks out the god baby for more power, and leads to part 3 where you can pick either Hawke or your Grey Warden, with who you pick the other will be the bad guy you have to take down.........really odd but thats what I was told, if it is the case, I will have to kill this Hawke dude with my Warden and I will love every damn hour on the hour of it, As I said its a rumor, hell at least I would get to play my Warden and show this smuck who the real badass of the land is.

Also if anyone was paying attention to interviews. Its not just going to be a DLC they are giving us. Chris if I'm correct you said DA:O is getting one more expansion? Which I do remember reading in an interview.

Hey, hey, I want that story, but the Morrigans child would be something for fit for a DLC than expansion. This way its optional and people who choose morrigans child get what they want. Image IPB

some things that interest me about DLC............Ostagar..you go back fight some darkspawn find all of cailins armor and weapons find duncans weapons yet when you give duncans weapons to alistair it doesnt mean anything and if you give him Cailins armor it still doesnt mean anything...and when you walk around talking to people afterwards no one even notices you have the kings armor or weapon....somehow that just isnt right.

Leliana betrayed as we all thought from her storyline just in ferelden rather than orlais as thought so the "traitors punishment" turns out to be a "spies punishment" wih a rescue from an Orlesian chantry member. Then rather then "fleeing to ferelden" she goes after Marjolaine then lets her live and then I guess she joined the chantry to hide from something certainly not Marjolaine since she could have just killed her so maybe we could have more Vague DLC.

I purchase DLC in the hope of finding continuing storyline or confirmation of events previously hinted at. I hope with future DLC they do a little better along those lines.

they mentioned before it was released that it wasn't a continuation... but a background story. which !!SPOILERS!! leads to leliana's sidequest in origins
