Seems like Bioware always uses the same formula of the jerk girl with special powers lover and the boyscout warrior guy.
You never know, they might change it up. Im sure they dont want the characters in DA2 to be comparable to ones in DA.

I would have liked more dialogue choices when talking to any of the women in the game, but I suppose they had to put limits somewhere. Even after learning the triggers to guarantee success I would sometimes choose different dialogue choices just to see what happened.
I can't remember her exact quote, but I especially liked the one where Leli, after inviting you into her bedroll and you choose to write in your journal, not so subtly calls you a schmuck for not getting the hint.

Another thing I would kind of like to see; the loner-type of thing. No, not where you just opt out of the romantic subplots, but where, perhaps after an extremely jarring and particular painful event, FemHawke or ManHawke would find a nice, secluded little spot by a lake or ocean, and just look up at the sky, while his or her thoughts would roam mostly on what happened, and then maybe a love interest comes out to comfort him or her.
And if you don't currently have a love interest, perhaps someone comes out to comfort you irregardless, maybe even blurts out a small little confession of having a crush on you or something, ne? Hell, maybe you could even paint the bad, 'ulikable' unrepetant romance interest guy in an entirely new light in Hawke's eyes, while the rest of the party still hates his guts.
....Seriously, though, I really need to stop wishlisting an Ozai type of character for a romance interest. .-.

I would like a Yandere as a romantic interest. For those who do not know what the yandere archetype is, it is a girl who is sweet, loving and super devoted, but... if you so much as look at another girl, the Yandere girl will go on a homocidal rampage that only ends when one of the three of you are dead. If the two survivors are you and the yandere, the yandere will be clingy and insane from then on. They are fun.
That's... disturbing...

Trust me when I say that it can get worse. Now, the Yandere' type is typically very present in anime's, however, this is also very...true in real life, where there are quite a few many cases of..this type of behavior.
.....
Disturbing does not begin to describe the horrors therewithin. Especially since DA2 spans 10 years. What would happen if you decided to go all adulterous on that Yandere? Methinks School Days would happen all over again.
.........
I wish I hadn't seen that anime, now that I think it. *shudder.*

Had an idea for all the people who don't want romance in the game. Bioware can put in an option were you can toggle it on or off similar to gore. As for me I find them to be an entertaining part of the story that gives you something else to do besides killing lots of darkspawn.
Well if you consider that Gaider & co have ALWAYS said that romances is one of their favourite elements when they write stories and, as long as they fit into the game, they will ALWAYS put them inside, I have a better idea for people who don't want romance into the game... they shouldn't play BW games !
It's just absurd they complain for something which is like a trade-mark for them.. If they play BW games they must know they'll find romance inside, and therefore they have to deal with this thing...

Would that really be so bad? People tend to focus far too much on this feature (and I do admit I was personally pissed off about the treatment Ashley and Liara got in ME2 as well)... Fallout 3 did pretty well without any romancing, as far as I know.

Honestly, I've never gotten while people are so dead-set against romance in story-heavy games, because all good stories have some sort of romance in them.

They are just a minority group and BW never cared too much about them...
They know that for every players who ask for no-romance there are about 1000 other players who love them, and consider them one of the most important feature for a RPG game.
It's not a coincidence that topics concerning romances are always the biggest ones in the forums, and they are full of post of players which are over-entusiastic of romances.. and they'll never give up an element of their games which they know is one of the most loved by allmost of their fans.
Especially if you consider they are themselves fans of the romances they write...

and @ Mox: Fallout 3 did well, but for all it was, it really just is Oblivion with guns. I cringed when Bethesda got ahold of the I.P. Exploration and fun combat, sure, but what really made Fallout Fallout was the story, and the interactions, and that isn't where Bethesda was good at. Though if you took Butch out with you provided he lived out in..Rivet City? He did flirt with you. So, I suppose that could count as a bit of a small jab of interaction/romance. Though VERY VERY small.
Still, Romance is a good part of an excellent story, usually. Sometimes it doesn't need romances, true, but BioWare is known for romances as well as the story, both excellent. So I don't think they'll never include them; for everyone of the romance naysayers, there are five, or ten, or more employees and a thousand others who love them. So, yeah.
Honestly, if people don't want romance, simply don't go through with it; it is an optional, after all.

That's a Shianni clone. I'd be fine with that.
Shianni is the best woman in Thedas, and her not being a LI was one of the worst decisions BioWare made in DAO.
So, HELL YES!

I mean, usully we have The BEST assassin in the world (Zev), the BEST spy in the world (Leliana), the BEST warrior, who happens to be heir to the throne even (Alistair), the BEST dwarfen warrior in Orzammar (Oghren) etc...
It´d be a nice change to have just some commoners who happened to be as lucky as Hawke when running away from the Blight.

I think that's a great idea. Such a scene, combined with some incredible music would be beautiful.
I'm expecting BioWare to surprise us with something similar to the Leliana Song moment, although I can't possibly imagine what they have in mind.

If you look at Origins as a life simulation in Fereldan as a grey warden rather than as an RPG, romance only makes more and more sense. It's an integral part of life, why not make it so in a simulation of life?
Don't you think you're going a little far? "Life simulation"... fantasy RPG... magic... living dead...

Right on!
EDIT: To be honest I just don't understand the point in continuing this particular topic. THE ROMANCES ARE OPTIONAL, END OF DISCUSSION! Just like most things in life: if you don't want to be a doctor - don't be a doctor; don't wanna car - don't get one; don't like techno - don't listen to it, GTFO of the club. Is it that hard to be a little realistic and mature.
Usually most minorities are a group of mature folks who have a good point, but this one must be the exception!
Don't tell me that your only concern regarding video games is sex and romance - you're not bothered at all by the blood and the killing?! The dismemberments?!
Maybe it's just me, but I kinda have a fondness for that old saying, "make love, not war"...

If you'd bothered to read the sentence, it says: "Life simulation in Fereldan as a grey warden...", and no, I don't think that's outrageous at all.

Dude... life simulation is LIFE SIMULATION... playing as a Gray Warden is role-playing.
Don't fight with me on this one, I can easily slap you with the dictionary.

You know, it´s a game. It´s not real. I know, I´m probably a bit strange, but though I am pacifist in Real life I enjoy violent PC games IF the violence is "appropriate" due to story (I still don´t enjoy killing sprees in GTA, for example).
I don´t understand what´wron with a few dismemberments in a game.

Consider the context.
My point was that those people are pissed off because you CAN have romantic involvements with your companions, but they have no problem playing such a fundamentally violent game.
CONSISTENCY!!!
EDIT: Oh, and the whole "make love, not war" was just to point out that I find sex *a little less* disturbing than killing.

Well.. Combats are another important element of RPG games.. If you want a RPG you cannot ask to remove them as long as you cannot ask to remove all that elements (like dialogues and romances) which are essential for the development character. A good RPG must have the ideal counterbalance between the action component (explorations, combats, and why not, treasure finding) and the "Role" component which includes the relationships with other characters, the dialogues, friendships, romances, the moral decisions and so on
You won't have an RPG without combats and challenging but a different kind a game
But at the same moment you won't have a RPG game also if you won't have the opportunity to immerse yourselfe into the story, and to connect with the characters. And romances are one of the most important elements for this goal

If there are though, I would want them to be of high quality.
Considering the trend in Bioware games, romance in DA2 seems all but confirmed. Hopefully they will take some people's advice and have the companions ask more about the PC.
