Something else just popped into my head randomly concerning romance as a story element.
According to the description the game spans a decade. That would add a lot more depth and realism to any romance subplots. As fun as they were in DA:O it was a bit "Here are some shiny things. lets go do it."

I would like to see some conflict of romances like Haer'Dalis<>Aerie in bg2 with the protagonist.



Like the Morrigan scene before the eve of the final battle, but should happen earlier in the story. The consequences was much less severe in DAO because we know the story was about to end.

Im sure there will be romances since it was a large part of Origins(if you chose to romance anyone). A LOT of people loved the romances so it would be ridiculous to not include romances in DA2.

I'm about 99% sure there will be.  Can you imagine the EPIC NERD RAEG if there wasn't?  BioWare's servers would crash and burn from the sheer force of the fan hate 

Personally, I need a few things out of my RPGs: a compelling plot, emotionally engaging characters, an immersive world, and lots of roleplaying room for my PC--though I'm quite flexible as to exactly how these factors are implemented.  Romances contribute to the characters, but they're not the only thing.  I love them if they contribute to the characters and their relationship to the PC, but sometimes they feel superfluous and downright weird.

I meant no harm, just saying that the s/s thread was made to ask the devs if s/s options would even exist, not to discuss what people want in terms of those options. There's a bit of paranoia amongst lgbt crowd due to the way things have been worded by the devs.

My only hope for romances in DA2 is that they'll turn out to be as good as those in Origins.



And considering that the Writing team for DA2 is the same as in DA:O, I have no doubt this will be the case.

Seeing as the game is set over a decade, I would certainly hope that the game goes beyond the "boy gets girl/girl gets girl/boy get boy" romance that BioWare have yet to evolve.



And sex scenes that aren't intelligence insulting silly.

I think the answer is 'it's a BioWare game' =P

So, assuming there are romance options, I kinda hope the game'll be less...pushy about them. It was really difficult to not have Alistair trailing around after me, and I felt downright rotten turning him down. Like kicking a puppy.

Well other then that Romance in games are a flavour to plot. I can play ''There is a bad guy , slash'' anywhere. ''But you will have options ! '' yea thats true but besides the gold and such , there is no gain in the story for our hero, fame reputation fine but come on I would dich them for a good romance really



This doesn't mean '' I won't buy this because no romance in there ! '' . I bought Awakening, liked it ( even though the ending was kinda Bam and over )



My concern would be lack of info about previous love interests and your previous Warden. But Bioware seems to have a plan about this since they have a ''big suprise'' at February. I am hoping it will be another Expansion to Origins for ''advencing'' to next game.

I doubt there will be another DA:O expansion not that DA2 has been announced. Based on Priestly's comments about the industry and gamers, they would get confused as to what game was coming out.

I'm actually more intrigued to find out about DA2's romances (and they will be there, no question about it) than I was for the romances in DA:O. The 10-year scope I'm hearing about sounds like a great opportunity to include romance plots with a lot of depth and character development. And, in fact, an opportunity for good character development in general.



Although this probably won't happen, I'd like it if the game didn't have sex scenes. I skipped the ones in DA:O and the Mass Effect games because all I could think was "ugh, weird." Somehow I think the "uncanny valley" effect applies more there than anywhere else...
