Personally I hope there is no "romance". Ever since Mass Effect, it seems like every BioWare game is almost as much as a dating sim as it is an RPG. I mean seriously, there are a couple 30 second sex scenes in Mass Effect and people fall in LOVE with the characters.

It's ridiculous.

Romances add a unique and fun direction to the game. They let you develop the relationships of other characters beyond what a simple platonic relationship would have been. There's another word for it... let me think... oh yeah! Role Play. You know, the first two letters in the genre of RPG. (The genre of the games you apparently play).

wow why does everybody think that just because i don't want to screw everything that moves that i also don't want to be immersed or have meaningful relationships with the characters?

The charcter of Morrigan was so powerful though. I really connected with her. It'll be hard to replace that. Yes I know its only a game and that wer'e playing as new characters but her and dante had so much fun being this ruthless couple...Kinda like Bonny and Clyde but with swords.

I enjoyed DA romance with Alistair a lot. And in ME I enjoyed the romance with Kaiden. My first choice is Carth. The flirting and teasing flowed in KOTOR. Both romances were great. Bastila would get flustered - great fun.

Definitely some humor, some flirting and teasing. . And more than one choice is always good. I didn't really find Zevran appealing, but the idea of different types of romances is a good one. Leliana was an interesting character and I have no problem with same sex romances. I figure it's unrealistic but this is a wish list so I'll wish.
1 choice for the woman who likes the "bad" boy;
1 choice for the woman who likes the funny, kind guy who believes you can take care of yourself and fights along side you; Someone with all the Alistair, Carth and Kaidan traits.
1 choice for men who appreciate a woman who can take care of herself
1 choice for the men who, I don't know, want a woman who will let them protect her? Not sure what guys want.
and 2 same-sex people. Intelligent and funny.
and who knows a couple of surprise choices.

One strictly gay and one strictly lesbian would be a nice surprise. It would also balance out the number of potential romances... just a thought.^_^

Seconded. But I doubt it will happen. Which is too bad because it could be great for characterization and it's something we haven't really seen in a game before.

I'm kind of surprised everyone only wants 2 choices. I, personally, want more variety.

 I really love that this thread was made by, "Fangirl." Props. That's classic.

p.s totally gonna go psycho when first handsome male is revealed. Along with my fellow Squee'ers.

p.p.s I think people want just 2 romances because they want both to be very detailed. Having more than 1 or 2 can limit things.

I just want a female version of Alistair, I really loved his romance in DA:O when I had to go for it (I'm an achievement ****, qq). It's unfortunate that I didn't finish it.

Meaningful relationships in general are what I want to see. More of the same caliber that DAO had, but more detail in the friendship paths. They were great, of course, yet I still felt like I needed more from people like Sten, Zevran, Shale, and Dog. More substance from everyone is always welcome.

That said, I cannot wait for the companion reveals and the romance speculation/reveals. :)

If you think its just about "Screwing" perhaps you should not be playing games like this. <_<

Less gold digging.

What do you mean?

I will demonstrate.
me: {Slaughters an entire villiage and kicks all the puppies}
Alistair: "You horrible monster! I hate you!"
me: {gives him shiny things}
Alistair: "Let's get married!"

Zaros wrote...I'm assuming he means that he doesn't want to have
to shower people with gifts for approval.

Precisely.

Presents for approval isn't entirely bad, but your actions should lock out some romance options no matter how many presents you give. Some evil child killing witch shouldn't be able to counteract her own evilness and marry Al based on giving him things that make him happy. Similarly some white hat tree hugging hippie shouldn't be able to buy Morrigan like she's a cheap hooker.

Yes, this was sort of off putting.  I don't want to alter their opinion of me by giving them a shiny object.
I did like receiving gifts however, especially the rose, but I want to be able to refuse it, which I did once.

I would assume that the romances will change from DA 1 to DA 2 as they did from ME 1 to ME 2. If that's a good or a bad thing, is a matter of opinion.

yeah that's what some folks are afraid of.

by some folks i mean me.

My love interest did not change in ME2 and will return in ME3.  :)  But this game is going to be a new character right, so it will be new love interest.  I'm hoping for more than 2 choices, but will settle for what I get.

I have pictures of Alistair, Carth and Kaidan on our computer screensaver.  My husband wants to change it but I keep putting it back on and he gave up.:happy:

I'd like non-party NPC romance options, or at least seducable options. I think it's an awesome dynamic to have,

I hope that wont be any new romancable party members (of either sex) like Alistair. Scratch that, I hope there isnt anyone remotely like that bugger in the game at all.

Give me more like Morrigan and Leliana, as a guy thats all I want (Ill admit it, bewbs, dark rituals, Claudia Black and french accents are all that I require)

In my opinion, romances add depth to your character's story and make it more interesting. It can affect the choices your character makes and really put a different twist on the plot. Everyone has a different opinion though, and so luckily they are optional for those who don't like...

or it just means that the nerds want to bang video game chicks

Excuse me,  I am not a nerd, and I don't bang video game chicks.  I do like romance and imaginary male heroes.  Fell for Edmond Dantes, Illya Kuryakin, Randy Benton and Edward Rochester.  Romance adds a lot to the whole game experience.  And there is nothing wrong with a well made love scene.

But I don't want to be forced into any romance by accident.  I'd also like to be turned down or have the option to refuse if the character and I don't mesh, which I've been able to do in past games.

I would really like the option to be friends with any of the NPC's that share my views even if they are possible romances, if that makes sense.

Why?
We can like or hate characters as well, why not develop an innocent crush? It's a sign of good writing.
You probably didn't mean what you said, as I can't imagine anyone enjoying these kinds of games if you truly felt no emotion towards NPCs at all.

I enjoy these games putting in 0 emotion.*wierd in my opinion*

BioWare has always had romance in their story line.  BG, NWN, KOTOR, JE, I'm pretty sure in BG you could even get one of the female characters pregnant.  I'm not interested in seeing any of the NPC's pregnant, but one of the main reasons I stick with BioWare games is the romance.  It adds depth and deeper involvement in the game and characters.  Just like a good book or movie.

Give the women the dark, border-line evil and yet suitably vulnerable romance option. A Tevinter blood mage would make my Fem!Hawke happy.

I do agree they need this, but they also need the boy scout, kind, true and funny.

Yes I adore Alistair, Carth and Kaidan.  Also Thane and Garrus.  One thing they all had in common - I liked them.  Zevron was an interesting character, but I didn't really like him.
