The thing about "exclusive" items that come with special editions and things though is that someone in the mod community figures out how to unlock them and stick them on a mod site anyway.

Yeah !..... I'm sure you are right, everyone is concerned about what items they are getting but, these will soon become discarded as new & improved items show up in the game. I feel you need to ask yourself if the CE is worth the extra money, leaving the pre-order "bonus" rings out ?
Me, I would prefer to have the SE (boxed) & pay for any extras onsite that suit me.

The CE really has to feel special to me to get me to buy it. Fallout 3 was just spectacular packaging.. a real tin lunchbox and a bobble head. GTA IV a pretty hefty lock box and a tote bag.. good quality stuff. Both of those were fantastic CE's to buy. but.. NWN 2. A cloth map and two rings!.. The special edition stuff that came with that was up on sites within hours of release. I think the stuff was just tucked away in a folder already in everybody's game.. Just needed to be moved or unlocked somehow. I can't remember. That was what I would call a bad CE.. Those are the only collectors editions I've bought so those are the only ones I know about..
