They said DA2 is going to take place in a new part of Thedas, but if Hawke is a survivor of the Blight, doesn't that mean he's from Ferelden? Maybe we'll still be able to see some of Ferelde, at least in the prologue or something...
Hawke is Fereldan

He's a blight refugee, so yeah, he'd be from Ferelden, and fled someplace else.

Sounds about right.
People aren't plants, you see. We don't have roots that keep us at a certain place stuck to the ground.

Like what, little Hawke hiding during the Battle of Denerim? Watching his parents get slain by a Genlock?
... oh great, now I probably just called the intro...

I predict you pick his background out of a selection. Like Mass Effect 1.
After all, he seems to already be the hero of kirkwall when the story kicks off.
*cue angry anti-ME sentiments*

I would not be surprised if this game is set in Ferelden. Again. Yay.

The fourth blight was in Antiva, so it depend what Blight he's a refugee of... Also perhaps it's a future Blight...

But then it wouldn't take place in the Dragon Age, so it has to be the fifth blight, and he has to be from Ferelden, or the Kocari wilds.

It's hard to imagine the game taking place entirely outside of Fereldon, because this is fantasy and you need English accents and lots of them.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's Chasind.

I wonder if he can customise him/her?

I thought this thread was going to be some wired M. Night Shyamalan type theory where Hawkes was the human embbodiment of Ferelden or something based on the title. lol

So I'm thinking that we'll get to choose origin and champion reason, kind of like we did in ME. As we make the character, we choose 1) childhood origin, what social class, family alive/dead etc, and 2) how we are a champion, ruthless friend-sacrificer or noble siege-repeller, etc.

I remember it being said that Hawke is from Lothering, and he ran away before the Darkspawn came.

Wow, we suddenly got an influx of new people on the forums I see. Thank you for posting the link to this, I was wondering when someone would.
Of immediate interest to the people here I direct you to the paragraph:
>>3. Hawke didn't just survive the blight...he escaped it.
As the Grey Warden from Dragon Age: Origins was fighting darkspawn, Hawke was living in Lothering. Fans will remember that the small village was raided and destroyed (an event that occurred off-screen in Origins), and Hawke was one of the survivors. However, rather than stay and fight the darkspawn menace, Hawke flees Ferelden and heads north.<<

Not new, just lurk a lot.
Thanks for refining that, I've been a little lazy.
